What to expect? They came and advertise their courses. Obviously, I was attracted to it. My cousin was already in JC that time, and I asked her enough questions about JC studies. I concluded that poly education is better, besides, JC don't teach IT. (JC students please correct me if I'm wrong on this point)![]()
thats where the elitist problem comes into frame...you say people want to go into a jc...why do you think so?is it because jc has always been deemed as the elite course of path that every 16 yr old should take right after their O levels?if you feel this way...then you are thinking in the mindset of an elitist...Originally posted by pierre^^:That why i keep stressing the *Most*

I think students, whoever, wherever, and whatever your standing is in the academia, should not allow yourselves to be carried away by these senseless and emotionally perplexing arguments.Originally posted by seow:Taken from togoparts.com

"By Adeline Koh: Its no secret who's better
I hate to be blunt, but JC students are better than polytechnic students, period.
Politically incorrect I may sound, but here are the facts. Entry requirements at JCs are far more stringent than those at polys. As a result, large numbers of students who do not make the cut for JCs are "forced" to opt for a poly education.
Those who enter polys of their own choice remain the exception, rather than the rule. Also, when the Public Service Commission awards scholarships to Singapore's best and brightest, they look to JCs, not polytechnics.
Yes, polys have improved in recent years, but there is still a long way to go before the average poly student matches up to the average JC student.
Sad to say, but this is an open secret."
I wanted to do my As even though I screwed up my O levels, so I chose CI over poly because I already had my mind set on my path. And I did not regret it.That's ancient history as far as I'm concerned.Originally posted by pwnz0r:Her statements can be easily considered 'truth' when looking at the top JCs in Singapore - RJC, VJC, HCJC, and the like. Students from these JCs are among the most intelligent in Singapore and poised to have excellent careers.
However this is not so when talking about other JCs, where students barely scrape to enter. I won't mention their names to prevent discrimination, but it is commonly known that students from these JCs tend to get lousy A level results. Some with such poor grades have to even opt for Polytechnic education.
Using the term 'JC student' and trying to compare isn't a general standard that can be easily applied. Rather, I think its the final A level grades that the student achieves that makes the difference.
The most important thing to note is that a Polytechnic education does not exclude success and better higher education in the very near future.
Nice one.....i just think she's the only lousy one......Originally posted by pierre^^:The word is not smart or not smart. I feel that JC are people who are more motivated to concentrate on their studies, therefore achieving gd results. While Poly people tend to play more than their effort in study, only start study when near exam. I say this as a general term. Of course there will be exception in every case like JC CMI or Poly got straight A student. I m a poly student b4 by e way. I think the reason most of us ended up in Poly is that our o-level we never really make an effort from the very beginnning, only start towards the 3 quarter of the yr and some even last min. Most of you guys, dont u wish u had a chance to go JC if it is possible? after all sch fees are cheaper, the route to Uni is wider. again. i say Most. not all. Some of u will have a preference for Poly instead. But i believe most of the ppl here will always harbour a dream of If Oni i can get into Jc. its like in your Primary sch, where u hope to get EM1 instead of EM2 or Em3. In seconday school where u hope to get into express instead of normal.
Aniway i wonder why the author make such a remark. What is she trying to prove aniway? There is no definate answer JC ppl are better than Poly. What are we comparing? Book Smart? Survival Skills? Can she prove that all JC people are better? What she can provide is that she based her assumption on the Generalised O-Level results oni and the university intake for JC students compared to Poly, and the behavior of some. To be honest it doesnt matter who is smarter. JC people or Poly. There will never be a conclusion. So my advice is dont get upset over this. Let these shallow people think what they like.
There will always be people who are better than u. If you think JC people are better than poly, thenthe public sentiments is that poly girls are more pretty than JC people. Fair enough? Of course it isnt, coz it is just an assumption as there will be pretty, and no so pretty one in each department

theatre studies?Originally posted by shinta:my bro went to jc.... cos what he wanted to do wasn available in poly.... the only way to get it would be to go to uni via jc...
higher chance of gettin a place in the course if he goes in via A levels...
Most JC students whom failed to go to uni. will end up in NIE or MLM.......Originally posted by Ito_^:i think more poly students carry the burden of this economy more than jc students, thus, its survivable not to have jc students but its impt to have poly students around.
