If you served NS only for the Govt's recognition and that measley $100 that you had been harping about, well, i agree, you had wasted your time utterly and totally because you do not understand what NS is all about.
I see NS as a means for us to learn how to fight when/if the time to fight comes. To learn how to protect our loved ones by our own hands. That is what we Men of Singapore acknowledge as our duty and that is why we give up 2 years of our life and fall behind our female peers because of that.

No one's stopping anyone who contributes to the growth of Singapore to become a Singaporean, a citizen. If you reject citizenship for whatever reasons that you may have, that is your own decision and your own problem. Blame it on no one.
Can anyone who claims to have contributed to Singapore's economy claim not to have benefited from that investment in return? How many did it out of goodwill, for Singapore? How many did it as an investment, for their own benefit, and yes grown richer because of that?
This is a bonus of sorts of Singaporeans. It is nothing new. If you play Romance of Three Kingdoms, you would have given grain to your people on good years as well to increase their loyalty. Sure its a political move. So? For those of you who dislike the government for doing so, give the money away to the next beggar you see on the streets. Don't pocket the money while mouthing off.
I'm not patriotic nor pro-PAP. I'm just a concerned Citizen who loves his country no matter how imperfect it may be. Remember, the Govt. doesn't make up the country, we, the citizens do. And i hate to see our country made up of a bunch of immature whiners.

Note : If you are Singapore PR/Citizens under the age of 21 & had or currently serving NS, you are NOT ELIGIBLE for the 40th Anniversary NS Bonus.
That why some people who had served or currently serving NS do not have $100 as The 40th Anniversary NS Bonus for their Progress Package. -

the thread starter must be from rich rich family. So to say, the second generation of PR, then have no choice to serve NS.
first generation of PR normally get exempted, coz too old to serve NS liao, further more, being a economy immigrant means no young boy liao lah...

anyways, the progress package is obviously intended for the coming election. as a pr, u cannot vote, or those below 21 years old so they are not willing to spend money which does not give them political advantage - which i think its very short sighted. its political foothold over the wellbeing of an entire nation.
that is singapore's government to you. and if the government represents the people, that is singapore's "people" to the other countries.

I think some of your got my point of the thread wrongly.
When Govt declared the NS Bonus package, they said, "in recognition to ALL NSF and NSmen who have contributed to Singapore by serving NS."
So I was asked to serve NS, I HAD a choice to serve or not. But to not serve means I will be denied to ever have the chance of becoming a citizen. As of now, I have rejected the SAF-backed Citizenship but I am still eligible to apply for citizenship.
To be honest with you, I wanted to take Singapore citizenship towards the end of NS. But because of legal implications that may affect my family prejudicially back home, I defered the citizenship offer till dual citizenship is allowed.
Going straight to my point is, IF the Bonus is to recognise people who have contributed to Mindef/SAF. Why are PRs excluded when I can say they "volunteerily" served NS as ALL PRs have the choice not to serve NS.
PRs served NS because they feel an attachment to Singapore, they see Singapore as their home.
PRs having no voice in election is acceptable as it has always been a citizen's right. But to have laws to make PRs serve NS and at the end of it not recognise their effort is simply a cold shoulder in the eyes of PR.
Its not about money. It's about recognition.
To those people who wants to take a snipe at me, I am ignoring your immature comments.
