Singapore's general election results are coming in.
Incumbent MP Low Thia Khiang of the opposition Workers' Party won 13,987 (62.74%) of the votes in Hougang SMC.
His opponent Eric Low of the ruling People's Action Party got only 8,306 (37.26%) of the votes.
The opposition party candidate won by 5,681 (25.48%) votes. Voter turnout was 22,570. Spoilt vote was 277.
The Hougang contest between the two men was a rematch of the 2001 General Election where WP's Low won 55% of the votes while his PAP opponent 45%.
Earlier, PAP's Mr Seng Han Thong has won 15,721 (68.27%) of the votes in Yio Chu Kang SMC.
His opponent Yip Yew Weng of the Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) got only 7,305 (31.73%) of the votes.
Mr Seng won by 8,416 (36.54%) votes. Spoilt vote was 491.
Yio Chu Kang is a new ward carved out from the old Yio Chu Kang ward in Ang Mo Kio GRC. - CNA/de -
