which country are you from?Originally posted by qqxx:Hi,
I'm an IT engineer with 3 yrs exp in application support for financial institutions. I've got an offer from a bank in singapore. I'd be grateful if some members could guide me in the kinda salaries offered for my kind of profile. I'm currently being offered 4k p.m.I would like to know if that is par for the course or should i negotiate for a higher package.
Thanks

india or china?
Mhcampboy, thanks for the info. Yeah i'm not planing to stay in a condo or pvt aptmt. Wow i'm bit surprised about the other expenses being around 2K. i was thinking that i'd get by on 1-1.2k(at the max). And yes i'm not planning on continuing in Sg for more than 2 yrs, so savings is an impt aspect. Guess i'd better try my luck in negotiating for a bit more.Originally posted by mhcampboy:Yes. With 4k, I dont think you can stay in condo's or private aparments lke most expats does. But yes. with 4k you can stay in singapore decently. You need to set aside abt 2k for expenditure. Your transport, utilities bills, handphones, yada yada yada.
4k is a lot to local standard. But remind yourself, this is not permanent. You still have to go back to your homeland. Can you save enough with 4k?

well ppl r pissed coz its hard to get jobs wid good pay...and they dont understand whythe jobs r goin to da foreigners....Originally posted by qqxx:hi valentinoo,
no i'm not scared because some crazy guy gives vent to his frustrations on this post. I really don't understand why some ppl have this fear of foreigners. I mean if u welcome free inflow of foreign capital, then as a corollary u must be prepared to accept free inflow of foreign labour. thats the basic premise of globalisation that capital and labour will flow across boundaries to where there is a demand for them, because the demand cannot be met locally.
Besides i'm sure there are hundreds of thousands of singaporeans also trying to make a honest living in US, UK and other advanced countries. So singaporeans too benifit from the free flow of labour
i invite u to check the ips.....Originally posted by vito_corleone:is it really that fun to talk to yourself, valentinoo?![]()

But i do wonder, if the cost of living is so high, shouldn't the general salaries also be higher to adjust for it?
Or is it just that engineering is not one of the in demand professions in sg?
i guess as much.Originally posted by qqxx:hi dragg,
