It seems that while students are generally financially well supported, they lacked guidance and emotional support from parents. Easy to go stray, don't know what's right, what's wrong and they are more likely to look for friends for comfort.
Parents on the other hand agrue that they don't have time for their kids as they have to mantain the finance stability (their favourite agrument). I think as a result (which is the main prob), many parents pushed the responsibility of moral education and teaching their kids to the schools. I also heard some parents see schools as child care centres, irrespective whether is is primary, secondary or even jcs. -
some parents only care when its too late.
e.g. kids going to be kicked out of school, mommy/daddy appears with the checkbook and everything's solved.
you cant blame us, we grew up like that.
cant judge a whole generation by the actions of a few too.. -

13. Will they know what's self-discipline at such a young age? Education is just purely education. Moral values and ethics are all up to the kids - whether they want to learn or not. That's when adults come into play in their life. They have to teach them what's acceptable and what's not. Kids are vulnerable, they learn from what they see. If adults don't set a good example, it will only affect the next generation. -

Selectively..This will be the few main causes. These few will lead to the rest..
Over-pampering can be the parents wanting to "payback" because of their prolonged absence. Likely to be the only kids or most 2 hence if something happened, they scared no one to take care of them when they aged.
With parent no there, children with maid will learn her 3rd world characters. Hence, how to upheld our good culture..
Child spended more time watching TV themselve then spending quality time with their parent..because their parent only looked at money.
Don't expect children that brought up this way to take care of you when you aged.. Likely you will be sent to retirees village..which will be built by then.. -
because the whole bloody family is screwed up...

Take the IP students in my school, quite alot of them are incorrigible, super rude, obnoxious and arrogant somemore, compared to my batch and the batches earlier than us, seriously qian bian sia... Wonder how they can make it into the IP, let alone come over to my JC lar... -

I respected you as someone who have self determination, no being influenced by the surrounding..Keep it up.
However, I observed quite a number of our youngers these days do have more problems compared to my time..maybe no yours.
Even my friend's daughter stole her classmate pencil case and throw it away..(Reason was that her classmate got No. 1 while she become No. 2 in a slightly well known school.)
My friend only came to know about it, when the teacher called him personally. He was too surprised...because her daughter behaved infront of them.
Anyway, I think the daughter had learn her lesson after lectured by her dad..
Now my friend spend more time really to be with her..
Utlimately..I think the influence out there is too great and some may be created by the kids themselve unknowingly to their parents. -

there is nothing they can do.
corporal punishment cannot be used by teachers, only by principals, even then they have to seek the approval from parents.
teachers cannot scold students or use any negative words on them.
even calling them 'stupid', 'untidy' or 'lazy' can invite complaints from parents.
teachers also cannot keep students back during recess.
the parents complain that teachers do not allow students to eat.
if u want to keep them after school, parents will say that students' transport arrangements are disrupted.
with the recent emphasis on 'apprecation', i feel that there is also a need for MOE to come up with a Students' Disciplinary Process which empowers teachers to take actions against the students.
let me give u a situation: students refuse to keep quiet. teacher REQUESTS him to quiet, but he does not listen. He scolds the teacher, asking her to get lost. wat can the teacher do?
scold? cannot
hit? lagi worse
refer to principal? principal says teacher is incapable, unable to handle students effective. -
