Blue part: wu kua poh zua boh? Requirements change liao, although academic is still as important.Originally posted by OO_OO_OO:i think you need to take a look at the surroundings before YOU make such a comment.
just look at our sports scene. we keep on importing foreign talent, however, has the govt even taken a look at our local talents??
Our local sportsmen, some very talented, are rejected because they are unable to meet the academic requirments to enter the sports school.
Foriegners are able to come and go as they please, once their contract runs out.
Sure, we will be able to accomplish Goal 2010, where sg will reach the world cup.
but the whole team will be bought.. a team of foriegners wearing the singapore jersy. we can then rename the team the united nations.
Yup, its just too bad he belong to a country which did not at all support death sentence. Its all a matter of prospective. If you ask an American or British, they will tell you Singapore has no right to be proud of how safe their country is, because Singapore is a country with one of the most death sentences rates every year.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Do people actually read the newspapers these days?
This angmo was only allowed to be extradited back to Sg on the condition that we do not impose the death sentence. Unless we agree to this ridiculous demand imposed by the Ozzies, they would not send this fella back for trial at all. Rather than letting him go off scot free, we had to accept the terms. If anyone is showing discrimination, it is the white supremacists from down under..
Under the Penal Code, the penalty for murder is death (Sect 302). There is no way we can charge him for murder and let him off the death sentence under the law. So we have to reduce the charge to manslaughter.
If people want to protest about this leniency (and I think they should), direct your anger at the Australian government.
If you don't want a Singaporean to be hung when he murders, all you have to do is to change the law in Singapore and make it something like the Australians. Then ppl in Singapore will start complaining without death sentences, it will not be safe in Singapore.Originally posted by OO_OO_OO:i got one explanation for this 2nd class treatment.
if you hang a foriegner, his country will make noise and the reputation of the singapore govt in the international scene goes down. eg. the australian drug dude recently hung.
however, if you hang a singaporean, no one is going to give a shit.
And i thought parents protected their own children...
agreed. i don't see why homegrown talents must be sacrificed for the sake of imported scholars. afterall...who tops the nation's cohort for Os? mostly locals.Originally posted by OO_OO_OO:even in schools.. the vietnamese and PRC scholars take up the spots meant for our local children.
bl00dy he11, i assure you None of these foriegn scholars intend to stay in singapore long term. they come here for education, before going back to their country to support their economy.
meanwhile, singaporeans denied places in schools have to spend their parents money by studying overseas.
No, we cannot. He is charged with culpable homicide under Sect 304 of the Penal Code. The maximum sentence is 10 years. Remember this law was meant for mentally ill persons who murder someone but have escaped the gallows on the grounds of diminished responsibility. It is reasonable for a mentally ill person to be sentenced to a max of 10 years in that situation. The law did not anticipate the interference of foreign governments.Originally posted by Glen999:but can increase the jail term ...
well sure you can execute the australian one.........but are you up to their tongue?????? not many people can stand that sort of crazy dingoes going around with their tongue harrassing people with their so called pretentious righteousness.........Originally posted by Anti-RuleSS:Now i really pity that vietnam boy who was executed in singapore for drug trafficking....Just couldn't believe that singapore jugde does not execute that caucasian for killed two peoples. Very disappointing.....
that proves that most locals just study blindly and are useless when it comes to helping their employer make moneyOriginally posted by The Peacemaker:agreed. i don't see why homegrown talents must be sacrificed for the sake of imported scholars. afterall...who tops the nation's cohort for Os? mostly locals.
it is time for whoever supports such atrocities to wake up their idea and help fellow homegrowns before they become ousted as second-class too.
