Your direction may be right, but perphaps, it'll be better if you can improvise on your "tone". Being straightforward's nice but different people have different level of acceptance.
You can't simply expect all the people whom you've communicated with to accept/agree with your statements by just that "tone"? It bounds to have "heated" agruments (Just like you & Livia).
Speak with care may be a tiring/troublesome way of communication which you might feel so, but it certainly going to reduce/avoid any chances of "heated arguments". -
