Shortcuts, no. Short forms, yes. It's a headache trying to figure out what they are trying to say. That's why I prefer MSN over SMS, typing on a keyboard is much faster than on a keypad. It's a headache to read all the replies. Anyway, as said, it's a trend, sooner or later you have to grow out of it. One will need to go out to the working world and write proper reports and submit to your boss, not 1337 5p3@k to your boss.

Actually what you know as proper spelling is the result of centuries of evolution. In Shakespeare's age (and even two centuries later) people used to spell words however they liked, as long as the reader could make them out. This just shows the amazing computing and processing power of the brain. So don't dish this spelling. It might be the language of the future. -

I do not think you should associate chinese speaking people with the lingo because I'm one chinese speaking person and I do not speak nor type like what is shown.
