lol.
you enjoy mocking and so-called mimicking 'em.
but i wonder if those guilty of such typing lingo would be aware of that.
but then again, what can we do with those kids?
sad case for the standard of english in singapore.
our future generation is going down the drain with such good 'articulation'

Look at the syntax in which "de" is added to the sentence... smells of Taiwanese pop culture mandarin..Originally posted by Hidden^OnE:Do you really hate chinese that much?
By the way, I hope you come up with some proof that 'de' is chinese-influenced.![]()

No wonder I can't find the connection! I have a certain dislike of Taiwanese pop culture!Originally posted by LazerLordz:Look at the syntax in which "de" is added to the sentence... smells of Taiwanese pop culture mandarin..
translate that into half-English and Half-Mandarin, and you get all these sentences that end with a "de" that seems to emphasise the immediate point and add supportive emotion to the phrase or sentence.

That's the majority. I still don't understand why they go crazy over 5566, KONE and other boybands lah. My younger sister is one of the girls that go crazy over these things. When I was her age 2 years ago, I don't remember going crazy over such boybands.Originally posted by stellazio:its mostly girls, and if u ask them what they like, they'll tell u stuff like 5566, f4 etc..![]()

And they happen to be the ones who uses "euu, liaox" and stuff like that.
There's a link lah. Don't know how to explain the connection.

They term us "nerds" because...
1. We don't use euu, liaox, harhar, nehxxx, chea etc.
2. We use computers all day.
3. We get good results for exams.
Um, seriously. Girls are getting influenced by the media. I hate it. ):
Well, I flunked Maths and nearly flunked Chinese and I use computer all day and I don't use stupid words.
But, people just say that we ARE nerds. 0.o
And recently, a friend of mine used the lingo and when I asked her why, she said, "To fit in with the crowd."
I mean, PFFT. Be yourself! Be a invidualist. Be UNIQUE. Why must we all follow the trend? C'mon. Set an identity for yourself and don't be afraid of it. :] Thats who I am.
I would say all of us are influenced by media in one way or another. I'm not affected by those stupid fashion shows, idol shows and whatever rubbish that is going on. But if you have a passion for something, say photography, whenever a company uses a particular media to advertise or there is a photography competition coming up, you would be attracted by it. You would want to buy a certain camera to shoot the best pictures.Originally posted by LinLing:But the minority of girls don't.

It's so f**king irritating and shows what good english singaporeans have, or how effective have the MOE has cultivated the use of more chinese, less english. (that's the stereotypical views of foreigners towards singaporeans.
and yes, i'll have to say at least 60% of singaporean youngsters are simply imbecilic, incompetent in the English language area; be it oral or written. mostly refered to those chinese-speaking schools, chinese-speaking families)
