alamak. then u still buying back G-shock!?? Try another brand lahz...Originally posted by Gedanken:From what I've seen, G-Shocks aren't as tough as one might believe. During my early NS days, they had an average life span of about 3 months because they just couldn't take the clobbering.
3 months??? That's a lot of clobbering. My G-Shocks went through NS with me and none of them spoilt during the period. But it seems that the backlight is always the first to go. Maybe I just used it too much. I love the Firefox pattern where the light had a red 'G' against the blue background. My first G-Shock was like that. I was so sad when its backlight went out. A great pity that they don't make G-Shocks with Firefox backlights anymore.Originally posted by Gedanken:From what I've seen, G-Shocks aren't as tough as one might believe. I didn't say I was the one wearing the G-Shocks. This was what served me throughtout my service while the G-Shocks were dying:Originally posted by heart2heart:alamak. then u still buying back G-shock!?? Try another brand lahz...![]()

Well, crawling a couple of hundred metres through gravel cradling an 84MM Carl Gustav does tend to take its toll on those rubber casings.Originally posted by dakkon_blackblade:3 months??? I've had it for 19 years and it's still functioning perfectly, which is more than I can say for my platoon mates' Casios. The marks you see on the crystal are mostly from my activities in BMT and BCT, and I've refused to have the crystal changed since each scratch has a story behind it. In 2004 I finally put it into retirement and replaced it with this:

Hmm, that's cute, littlestream. I was actually examining someone's custom-made Chopard Happy Diamonds this afternoon - she'd dropped it and cracked the crystal, and now she's got to send it back to Switzerland for repairs.Originally posted by littlestream:

Those Chopards look nice, but I'm not sure about the build quality. This custom-made Chopard I was looking at today had diamonds embedded in the bracelet links, and within a month it had actually lost two diamonds. Chopard replaced them for free, but for something at that price one would expect that it was better constructed, and the quartz movement seems too ordinary to be putting into such an expensive case.
Hee hee..........thanks, Gedanken and high 5s to reliability!!!Originally posted by Gedanken:From what I've seen, you've got the better deal, littlestream - at least you don't have bits falling off your watch.
That's what I like about my watches - they're not as flash as some, but damn, they're built rock-solid.

That's because FM wearers (such as me) don't go around dipping our hands in boiling water. We um, wear FMs to private parties, fine dinings and whatnot like all other socialites. Not too involved in extreme sports.Originally posted by Gedanken:Somehow, I can't see Franck Muller or any of the others doing something like this.![]()
