Where Bugis junction is located, there used to be just shophouses. Rundown old shophouses.
Who can remember at the front of Bugis Villiage in the Mid 90s, used to sell Pirated Music and videos CD. The techno music at the bus stop was really loud then.Very popular, we those days will just go there to buy.
Who remember the old Studebaker disco, prelude to Venom and China Black.
Boat Quay Pub such as BoatHouse, (The one on top of the roof), Corals & Shells, Taps and all those watering holes.
Oriental Emporium was still around then. Now all closed down already i think.

how about the shop houses opp. raffles hotel..now is just a piece of vacant land..there used to be this coffeeshop that sells great tasting char kwey tao..would eat it with my classmates after lessons.

geylang lor3 has this amusment park...my parents used to bring me there.. gayworld i think haahah..stupid name rite... coz gay used to be just happy .
satayclub was one of my fav. place to eat.. used to work at the court..and would walk opp. to the satayclub for nice yummy food. -

If I can remember,during that time in 81,I was in primary 3.Prata kosong only cost you 30 cents.For egg prata,it will cost you 50 cents,but you must bring your own egg or mama will charge you 70 cents.Those were the days....

the best part in that era is that we are all 20 years younger,joy are much simple,not so much troubled teens here and there beating people up.
tv games are simple yet much enjoyable,best of all no gst$ when we buy stuff.tv show are better than it is now.$20 IS REALLY MUCH BIGGER IN VALUE THAN NOW.
IN SHORT ,IT IS A MUCH BETTER TIME AND SPACE THAN NOW.HAVING A JOB IS HARDLY ABLE FOR YOU TO HAVE MUCH SAVING.
WE CAN ONLY HOPE THAT OUR CHILDREN WILL HAVE BETTER TIME THAN US NOW.
LASTLY,THE WORLD IS MUCH MORE PEACEFUL THEN. -

bus fare only 5 cts..10 cts can get you a long way. There was a bus service from oustside the Maxwell Market to the other end of the route opposite the condo at the foot of Mt Faber. Total fare was only 10 cts.
I remembered taking an electric STC tram bus. Kind of weird because it was so silent. During those times, it was everyone for himself/herself as far as seats are concerned..no proper queues etc. Bloody bus conductors always yelling.."Ow way chia..!!.."
A steaming bowl of kuay teow fish ball soup cost only 20 cts and 30 cts got you mee-pok tah, solid one and damn nice. Chow Kuay teow only cost 30 cts a plate, can also bring yr own egg.
There was no big dept stores around except a single one called Robinsons. Prior to the big fire which burnt it down, it was THE place to go to do yr Christmas shopping...I remembered especially the huge Marklin toy train set on an area about 15 tables size. They have a few trains running around which never failed to fascinate all the kids..

Capital Punishment was standard those days, my hand was rapped by my form teacher many times using a wooden ruler. The kids nowdays got it easy. No need wait for public caning, this is enough to deter us. Very pain 1 lei.
