its the goverment's job to work towards the 1st world..... but the funny thing is leaving only 20,00 Aussie enough for a car after you migrate to Australia...its like scrimp up enoughh just to migrate, get out of the country and show the world "i am international"...cool to some but not to all...so i hope gahmen made owning a car affordable for ppl who will only have 20,000 aussie to spare after they migrateOriginally posted by FireIce:we are....

I think they should increase the import duties on the cars. The traffic is already bad enough.

well guys like cars...but not all guys are into cars...but i am seeing obsessions with cars and owning it means success, suave and the abilitiy to pick up girls...well yes in the sense u be the chaffeur lor....but i am seeing many ppl acting up trying to own one and ended up with nothing left after migration (yeh migration is another thing)...i mean for those truely rich ppl its okay but there are those who are trying to act rich, do migration god i find it so contradictive...moving away seeking a better life and ended up with only hehe 20k Aussie to spend over tthere on a bat mobile...i mean face it migration is for the rich and wealthy and those who got the as s for it for others to fulfil their personal 1st world dreams...pls gahmen make car affordable...not for me dun mistake ... for them help them....see how this group of ppl are breaking down into psychologically

What's with the government/lee/pap hate? Others -may- (a BIG may) be better, but fact remains singapore took a huge leap ahead under their lead and jurisdiction. I'm grateful and content, mayhaps I'm not too much of a politics person. =)
Anyway, the changes:
1. Put those rubbish bins back at MRT stations! I don't wanna hold some trash in my hand throughout the ride.
2. Where's my spring/autumn/winter?
3. More public holidays. =) -

acutally, if u count, excluding PH, we got 55 weekdays at home. Bu then, hlaf the time u are needed at school and the remaining half are needed for school related stuff, which means ur holidays are holidays at all. So, it is a pretty gd idea to have a off--day system of the working world. But if that really happens, be prepared with empty exam halls ...

I don't expect the State to be able to pay more than 10% when my kids go to college, cause everyone will be in college at that stage, it's the world we live in now.
I am a doc and I can't afford a car in Singapore, what more other people.
I don't buy this congestion issue and we must control the car population.
Several years back some MP was quoted as saying that if we consumed vehicles the same as other industrial societies, we will need three times the road space.
I think it is the lack of invention and management on LTA and highly paid transport ministers' part. Singaporeans want their cars and they should do all they can to make us a car driven society.
If they truly issue long bonds, 10-years, 15-years, 20-years and 30-years and finance a massive infrastructure building program to triple deck all current expressways we should have 3 times the roadspace for all major thorougfares. (ie. stack a flyover on top , surface road and tunnel)
Additionally, using the ERP gantries we can bill all surface roads in our towns for people who are unfamiliar with the towns. But if you are a town resident you can scoot around in tunnel interconnects from suburb to suburb to parking garage to parking garage.
We pay alot in direct and indirect taxatioon for cars and they go to consolidated accounts?!?!, We ought to spend every cent collected on transportation and funding road buidling programmes.
I hate the public transport (it works if you got time), else you wake up earlier, walk 10-15 mins to the pick-up point in the sweltering heat, wait 10-15mins (sometimes full), make it, cram like sardines in a tin-can, no seat, standing room only, make it to work in great discomfort - when you could have gone there in your car in 15 mins ..... Life sucks

Good words in general terms but short on specifics.
There ain't such a thing as affordable healthcare.
What you pay is what you get.
1. CPF Funds should be invested more aggressively as a group for ages 20 to 50, blended down conservatively from 45 to 65. Conservatively from 65 yrs on.
They should achieve payouts of 6% minimum returns - how come Temasek can and CPF cannot? CPF cannot be used for housing - straight away housing becomes cheaper.
2. Affordable healthcare - healthcare that is top quality and cutting edge - you think it will be affordable? There is a disconnect here. How come buy Sony digital camera and not Great Wall Optics? Because one can see clearly quality and the other is much more opaque, right.
3. Education is what people want to study for (a) job qualifications (utilitarian) -as intended by Goh K.S. (b) academic - pursuit of intellectual fulfilment, etc - a true "education"
What is sensible and fair for someone is unfair and nonsense to another.
My take - spend a little more and let people do what they choose. If they can't make it this year (quota) offer them a bridging year but save a spot in their course of choice for the next. When people do what they want, they tend to be more interested and excel. Also, a bridging year in other subjects will produce more rounded individuals and also expose other talents or interests that the student never knew or developed.

1. Concentrate in building a world class 'software' (e.g. more caring, more socially reasponsible, more civic-minded, more human ppl, etc) instead of 'hardware' (i.e. wonder of the world buildings, etc).
A country is made up of the mindset & characters of its ppl.
2. Allows more time/activities/amenities for ppl to interact.
3. Give Singaporean its own national identity.
