Anyway, what's so surprising? I see monks and nuns often and sometimes got people with them. I only wonder how they managed walking barefoot.

He is probably suffering from some internal injuries and that's why he's sick now. He went to attend some wu lin da hui and got hit by some dragon palm and tiger fist.
When he coughs, if you look carefully, you will see him cough blood. That's caused by the internal injury. -
Perhaps the monk lian4 gong1 until zou2 huo3 lu4 mo2 and so had to go to doctor for treatment...
