doubt i will ever go there (too costly for the whole family to go)....so thinking if can let her go see the place y not.... -

it was OK...actually it was an immersion trip to china where I stayed in Wuxi(about 1.5 hours train ride from shanghai) for about 6 weeks...then travel up to shandong area then to beijing...then take plane back home...Originally posted by a_splash:to beijing too (your poly time)?? how was the trip?
for beijing...went to wang fu jing area....tried the "MRT" there...visited a few places of interest...some shopping centres...their shopping centres quite nice...one even had a ice skate rink in the middle...but I wonder if that's the place where ordinary chinese people do their shopping...doubt so...maybe for the middle-upper class....saw some kids begging in the streets...some gal calling my room asking if I want massage...emm....guess that's about it.

yup...a few states....we landed in shanghai..spent 2 days there...then go wuxi for about 6 weeks...in between went to suzhou industrial park...had a tour and presentation by the suzhou industrial park staff...also went hangzhou...some of us also go to nanjing...then whole group go shandong...jinan city...."climbed" the Tai Shan...then to beijing and back home from there.
cost is like 1000 bucks to school...my subsidy is 50%....cost covers everything including all meals except when in wuxi...we had 2 weeks of industrial attachment where we are assigned to work in local companies.
have to go off now...will come back and write somemore if I have the time. -

Think my little cousin (primary 5 or 6) just went to Beijing on a school (HPPS) trip 1.5 months ago. She came back a very happy student, haha.
Well actually, aside from the horrific traffic condition, Beijing is pretty much a beautiful and safe place. Still a little lacking in the hygiene department though, I see spit in departmental stores sometimes!
IMHO, a 1-teacher-to-5-students sound just about right. If you're still worried, you could pop by school and have a talk with the teacher. =) -
Traffic jam is bad in some of the cities, esp the bigger one, like ShangHai.
Dangerous or not depends on city, places like Guangzhou, ShenZhen, mostly the southern cities, are dangerous, dont wear your gold chain, keep your wallet safe. Many pick pockets and "snatch n run" cases.
After the SARS incident, they improved alot on not to spit on the floor. bcos during SARS outbreak, they really get ppl fined if they spit in public.
For the cost of hotel stay, in smaller cities, like the one i am at, a 3star hotel cost you around 400RMB. A 4 star cost you around 600RMB. But in bigger city like shanghai, it's much more expensive. I have been to a hotel in Nanjing that cost me 700RMB, but it's about the same standard of those cost me 400 in the city i am at.
Eating is cheap, damn freaking cheap. Imagine arount 4-5 ppl go down stair eat "zhu chao" in singapore, will cost about around 40 dollars SGD. For 40 SGD=200 RMB, can order until you cannot finish all. And the things are much better than "zhu chao", and the place is indoor restaurant, not kopitiam.
Travelling is cheap if you take Bus/train/MRT. -

the 1K excludes personal expenses. and additional trip to hangzhou(for me)
my flights also SQ...stay in hotels except in wuxi where they have this lecturer accomodation for us...like hotel also...chambermaids and aircons.
