How to fight temptations?

Need to get some advice. Like, for example, a guy has a gf who loves him very much. The man probably mean the world to her so if he did anything unfaithful, it will hurt her badly. Understanding this, so of course the guy don't want to do anything unfaithful to her, but then sometimes he is surrounded by beautiful looking female friends. Sometimes there are temptations to look towards greener pastures etc, if you get what I mean.
Or another example, you see some items you know you shouldn't spurge money on, but you felt tempted because afterall, you think to yourself, "hey it's the great singapore sale, this is the last pair, today is the last day on offer, if i dun buy, i miss the best bargain in my life!!!" I'm sure many people here may feel guilty about the way they have thrown their money away.
Such temptations are common. And I have been thinking alot about such issues, it doesn't seems like there is a right or wrong answer, so any advice or comments is much appreciated. -

Yup, know what you mean.
As mentioned, if willpower is a problem, then the next best thing is to walk away. If you're not there, you can't partake of the goods, chicks...etc
Had noticed that many people had been walking away cos frankly, too much temptations all over the place..sigh ! -

Temptations are something like you already know is not very right, and you should not do, but people still do it to obtain instant gratification/happiness. If someone see a $1000 note on the floor, they are likely to pick it up knowing it's not right and they should not take money that does not belong to them, but that's what temptations are. And of coz heard before of people who found a lump sum of money and surrender the money to the police, which is very honest indeed.Originally posted by Patrik:Yeah.

I've the opposite problem:
E.g. I see a beautiful bag at GSS but my first instinct is to ask myself, 'Can I live without this?'. If answer is yes, my mind would go into 'Let's me wait for the next GSS and check out if there's any better one than this' mode.
So up to now, I'm still waiting for the NEXT GSS for a better item. I've yet to part with my money for things I don't really need.
Also, for every item I attempt to buy, I would try to find fault with it, even to the point of whether 'are there too many of this items on sale'? If I realise the item is not unique or has more than 2 on the rack, I won't buy. Reason: I don't want to buy things that too many people will be using / wearing. I just don't like to have same items that others are using /wearing.
I've not got anything for myself from this GSS as I don't like to have the same items as everybody else. I've so far bought presents for others coz it's cheaper during GSS but not for myself. -
Ah, I suddenly think of a good example. You know so many people queuing up to buy 4d and toto? If you ask them, most of them know the odds of winning is stacked against them, and they know they shouldn't bet in such cases, but the temptation to win the jackpot is too big for them to let it pass. In such a situation, how will you save these kind of people, what ways will you use or advice to help them resist temptations?
I am asking partly also because someone close to me is addicted to gambling, his income is only 2k, but his gambling debts is well over 30k. The bookies allow betting on credit. Now the problem I see is that he cannot resist the temptation to win more money.
If someone has some good ways or techniques to curb temptations, I am sure I can learn alot from it and help "save" my friends as well. -

On the GF part-

Alright, thanks for your contribution. So you are saying, to deal with temptations, we should first think and reason to ourselves before we do it. The only problem is, temptation touches alot on emotions and sometimes emotions took over logical thinking. Honestly, I believe alot of guys are having affairs outside, some of whom are married, like my dad, and I wouldn't say he's a stupid person who cannot think for himself. It takes a lot or just ONE ordeal in life, to make a man capable of over-riding his temptations. Ok, what you said makes plenty of sense, I wish some people think like you. See, I am trying to help some people but I don't know how. I am also helping myself in some way, what you said drives into my mind, I will remember it. I am thinking how to drive such mentality into those people that crave in to temptations easily. Some people lack willpower, that's their problem, but somehow because it happens some of them are closely related to me, I am trying to find a solution for them. -

One must come to a REALIZATION through a FALL. A bad one at that...
Man, has more than just one or two weaknesses. And all these weaknesses, takes a lifetime to iron out. Some or most died with half of their weaknesses unresolved.

It is a variable emotion, learn to remember or visualize the outcome.
