I had been experincing more than enough problems with my Singnet connection, with problems ranging from laggy or slow-as-a-snail connections to being completely unable to access some web sites, and - a problem I discovered just now - "blurping" connections to internet radio. I have been wanting to switch over to a Starhub connection for a long time (my contract with Singnet ended earlier this year, by the way. In fact, I have been reading up on a lot of Starhub's promotional material, and I have also heard of generally better quality and service from Starhub. Plus,
this Straits Times letter, in which the writer wrote that even
Delhi, India, a city that is behind us by a lot technologically,
has a 512K broadband connection that is better than Singnet's 1500K connection, among other things. Also, Starhub's 4000K plan, at $50+ a month, is cheaper than my current Singnet's 512K plan, which is priced at $70+ a month (and which has deeply burned my pocket, myself earning only $310 a month serving my N.S. as a clerk).
Yet, there is a problem.
You see, even though the Singnet connection account is under my name, I co-pay with my sister as she also uses it (and has agreed to it). And even though my sister and I are given a lot of autonomy when it comes to finacial things, my mother still controls some aspects of it, and she does use the internet ocassionally. Because of this, I need to "negotiate" with my family on this.
But no matter how hard I try, even using the information I have armed myself with, I fail to convince either of them to switch. And this is on top of my sister admitting herself that she has also experinced problems with the connection. They just tell me to "bear with it".
Why? "Promotions."
Despite the current promotion, they keep telling me to wait out until "something sweeter arrives". And when they do that, my mother will start on how there might be promotions for a computer at the end of this year, and blah blah blah. I try telling them that "I had enough" and convincing them that the current promotions are sweet enough (and that was before Starhub's current promotion), but they just won't listen, caring about only for the promotion and disregarding the actual product.
Not only that, they try to convince
me that Starhub is not worth it, countering with that Starhub disconnects the moment you make a late payment.
Seriously, promotions are just a gimmick to lure new customers. Not only that, it also serves to distract customers from the actual product they are paying for. I don't care much about promotions, and I feel the current one looks good enough to me. And there's another thing - what if, at the end of this year, the promotion is not what they expect? Continue to wait while bearing with such a poor-quality connection?
Ironically, it was my same family members who tried to tell me not to sign up for Singnet way back when I was deciding on a broadband plan. I didn't knew anything at that time, and I first selected Pacific Internet, but switched over to Singnet when they failed to deliver and I terminated it even before they started. Now, they are telling me to bear with Singnet just because of promotions, and even when they themselves experince problems.
I have run out of energy to convince them, and I need you guys to help, especially on all this promotion nonsense. I just can't stand Singnet anymore.
