this is one of the tragedies of history. Our national anthem was composed before we achieved independence ..Originally posted by trendz:i don't sing. that's because the n'l anthem should be in english. why a minority race's language? foreigners are surprised.
and moreover, english is an int'l language.

not stoking up the flames in racism, but pls don't f*ckin' view the world in a pithole.
Not true. For my class, no one sings because they did not see the point. And it can be hell to be in school 30min before class starts just to sing and take pledge. And just recently i found out MOE say its a must for schools to have flag rising ceremony only once a week, but many schools still stay with the full week.Originally posted by popmynutsy:those students dun sing because they wana be cool. singing n.a = nerdy = uncool. i sing it. but im not guai kia.![]()
The pledge was in English because even at that time, many started complaining they cannot remember the lyric of the anthem. So no choice.Originally posted by Icemoon:this is one of the tragedies of history. Our national anthem was composed before we achieved independence ..
notice the pledge, penned after 1965, is in English.
The above are the facts. The real reasons are because the national anthem was composed in the wake of nationalism. So obviously it cannot be the colonial language right? The pledge was composed to stress racial harmony, so it must be neutral and cannot be Malay.
