well i have to agree that 2nd smoke kills faster than inhaling 1st hand smoke. but it is also not true to say that 2nd smokers do not die faster than 1st hand smoker. The thing is, people tend to puff ciggerates in a different way. Some do not inhale all the smoke into their lungs. Some tend to smoke in open areas, which decreases their chances of inhaling back their own smoke. See, our lungs have anatomical dead space and physiological dead space. The smokes which do not reach the lung stay in the oral cavity, trachea and bronchus. Then the air we inhaled will be of the mixture between oxygen and those smokes. Not to mention that passer-bys are walking or doing some exercise that breathes in more air than the smokers who are sitting down puffing. Good if the smokers will then again inhale back their smoke. So, good luck for them. They contain about more than 4000 chemicals, which is fatal. not forget to mention that the tar (you know tar?the material that makes the road looks black) is deposited along the airways. All the best for the smokers again for getting a janitor to clean their airways (meaning mouth, nasopharynx, oropharynx, laryngopharynz, trachea....) with brush and disinfectant. Also, we have to take into consideration genetic factors. Some people are more susceptible to diseases and some are not.
i mean, try to talk to you employer or do something that will tell him that you can't stand the smell. i think quit the job will be the best solution because your health is more important. More so, it is difficult to tell walking time bomb not to smoke or smoke in other places. Let's say, if you really want to quite the job, tell you employer about the things you are facing while on the mean time, you have to be sure that you already got a job. MAybe they will change . who knows.
