Don't be stupid...you think teachers like to punish students? Teachers have many more other things to do...it is because students never listen and never follow the teacher's instruction that he/she has no choice but to punish...
And if the teacher never punishes, the student will think it is alright to continue to misbehave and sooner or later, the rest of the class will follow suit.
And it is not the students who pay the teachers, it is MOE. MOE pays teachers to teach the students well, and without rules and punishment, this cannot be achieved.
Since when should teachers be seen as the slaves of the students? It is this kinda screwed up thinking that the new generation nowadays have become too "soft"...just a little bit of punishment already want to complain. They never reflect on why they were punished in the first place.

back in the sec days, teachers punishment is the best for me. if guys got punish, my teacher just punish us by stay back in class and cleans the classroom.
but if girls got punish, man oh man.... my teacher make force them to a push-up position. and every few mins, my teacher would poke them to see if they would fall. if they fall, the time will be reset. i really love those punishment they give to girls

school punishments are nth compared to military and civil punishments...but i personally prefer school punishments cos they r funnier, more laughable and forgiving...at least, u dun end up losing ur entire future/career...perhaps its cos offences in school are often nt as serious as those committed in the country and army...

Hm... a small survey here: Suppose u're the teacher, how will you punish a naughty kid? 1. Make him stand for a long period of time. 2. Make him suffer from tiredness (e.g. stand and raise hands) for a short period like half hour.

i tink for me, it depends on the situation...both punishments r equally harsh in nature. the availability of time wil be an impt factor. if theres onli 1 period(30min), then option 2 wil be harsher since 30min of standing dun realli tire the student...long period would mean 1hr n above for option 1...

Hm... if there's 3 periods, what will be ur preference? Suppose there's only 1 period, can the punishments be brought forward and monitored by the next teacher? -
if its 3 periods, i dun tink its physically possible to keep both hands raised straight up thru out...from wad i observed, 1 full period is juz abt the maximum anyone can take...for 3 periods, standing would be betta as its stil possible to keep standing although the student's legs r very tired...
i am sure its possible to bring forward punishments to next teacher's lessons. however, there seems to be an unspoken rule tat students r automatically released at the end of lesson...

But then sometimes a teacher may be teaching the class more than 1 subject (e.g. English and Maths) and all her lessons may be together for 5 periods continously. If that's the case, the student will be punished throughout the 5 periods? Haha... then the student will be very unlucky. Duration of punishment also varies a lot. If the student forgets to bring textbook or never submit homework, he will be punished at the start of lesson and those who are caught talking will be punished in the middle of lesson. In that case, why don't the teacher note down names and punish the students the next lesson to ensure fairness? One of my teacher did that last time cos she wanted only 1 student to stand outside the staff room each day rather than 1 whole group stand there. -

This is just an isolated and extreme case. Incidence whereby the teachers were being attacked are more and on the rise around the globe. Singapore see its fair share of such cases happen every other day. Some went unreported -

For extremely naughty kids, I will work together with the PE teacher (if I am not in charge of PE for that class) to make sure the child doesn't get to play in the games during the PE lesson. Either that or I will keep the child in class during recess, provided of course I have food to offer to him.
Now we can only implement punishment in the form of withdrawing things that the child enjoys, ie PE lesson etc.
