When i was in primary school~
I had a tuition teacher who use canning as a method of punishment! And trust me its not light! ><
To be punishment is a must... Punishment can motivate but too harsh... gone too far!

my tutor in secondary used caning too but only in very extreme cases when the student is unrepentant...u must understand teachers like them were from the older generation that believed punishments had to be harsh to teach n discipline the students...they are not suitable for modern day schools...anyway, most of them are retired by now...

I think it really depends which era we are in...if it was during my time, that wouldnt create any stir at all...in fact my parents will nvr lodge a complain if i were the boy...i guess the teacher in that case have to understand the era she is teaching in and act appropriately...
Yet having said tat, school discipline nowadays have deteriorated drastically...personally I dont think this case is a big deal...the parent reacted that way cos kids nowadays are spoilt rotten...

Teachers are generally okay today.
In secondary school, I was never shouted at.
I wonder what happen if teacher are allowed to use the cane
I think I wouldn't be able to take pain emotionally and psychically. I had harldy been beaten, the last time I was hit was me in Primary 6.

IMO, since canning girls is not allowed, using it as a punishment would be much less effective, especially when children are aware to this double standard. Therefore, teacher should learn alternative to disciplining children, especial gender-neutral ones.

I do not agree that girls should be caned.
Let me ask you this question......
Do you believe a man should punch a girl ?
Do you believe in war, the men should go in front first, and fight ?
From the answers of those question, it will reveal your social and ideological beliefs.
If you believe a man should never punch a girl, and in times of war, the men should go first.....maybe it is easier for you to accept girls should not be physically caned.
To me it's the same idea and it flows together.......
