Official WebsitePresident's Challenge is an annual series of community-based activities started by President S R Nathan in 2000 to rally the public towards helping those in need of assistance. His call is for Singaporeans to create a society where showing kindness and having a generous spirit of giving and caring for the less fortunate in our midst is part of our social ethos, and in doing so, to build a more cohesive society.
The major activities of the President's Challenge are usually held around the September school holidays. The specific aims of President's Challenge are firstly, to increase awareness about how the community can get involved in helping the less fortunate and secondly, to raise funds for the social service sector. The President's Challenge provides a platform to highlight the role of the public, people and private sectors in meeting these aims through their active and voluntary participation, both during the period of the PresidentÂ’s Challenge as well as outside.
Besides the many events organised during the President's Challenge period, many individuals and organisations have also taken upon themselves to embrace the President's call by organising supporting activities to encourage volunteerism and raising funds for President's Challenge.
Through the generous support of Singaporeans from all walks of life, the President's Challenge has, in the three years since its inception, raised over $41 million. Together with the many partners and sponsors who have helped to defray all the administrative costs, every dollar raised under the President's Challenge has gone entirely towards the beneficiaries.
