Approached in Orchard to take up modelling

It's ok....I hope you dont feel too bad...go out take a walk at the beach.......refresh yourself......it's only money.....it's good you've been conned now for $450, it means in the future you will be much harder to fall into any cons......I mean some people got conned millions when they're in 40s or 50s. As wise men say, 'make more mistakes sooner'. I hope you will take the positive side.

Which modelling agency approached you? Couple o' friends and myself have been approached by a modelling agency before when I was in town.

Perhaps you can return the favour and report them. If not legally through police (since it might be legal), then ethically through an ethical business bureau. That is if you want to take action.

There was once i just finish an interview, was in shirt and tie walking down orchard. Got two guys approached me asking if i want to be a model. Of coz i was flattered la.. Then they copy down my contact and told me their office was in Tanjong Pagar.. etc..
Then a few days later, they call me to go down their office for an interview. But i was attending an interview the next day so i bluff them that i be going down. After which they didnt call me again. Anyway i got the job that i was going for interview.
Wondering as this happen a few years ago, wonder if this is a scam too.. or Maybe i miss my chance at modelling..

No lah maybe they will take your photo to more modelling agency so that more people will con you..
oops I mean invite you to submit your portfolio...

btw, some if not most of the models with the modeling agencies also have to pay for their own portfolio. im not sure about the famous and top models though. -
hi, new here...been approached to do this before, but didn't join, cos i know my own standard...haha, cmi.....and consulted my modelling friend if there is really such a thing.
Aspiring models will need to pay for the portfolio or they can get their own one done...whether you get called up for assignments or not will depend on the needs of the advertiser, my fren said that you needn't be like tom cruise to be a model, there can be many kinds of model, so end of the day, some of the assignments may just use parts of your body shown, like your feet for example...
1 more thing, tt company that approached.....is it a talent scouting agency or is it a modelling agency? There is a difference..... -

Firstly, what's the name of company?
Quite a number of company function that way. You will probably need the photos then compiled into com cards before they start sending. But the trust is entirely on the company. And even if the com cards are sent to clients, you are not guarantee on the jobs and very likely, the agent would probably re-use his/her favourite batch of models, leaving little opportunity for the new comers (unless you are good).
Ok la, to salvage the situation, I suggest that you keep whatever shots you have taken. I used to help out in my ex-company and our max shots (can't remember how many shots liao) cost only 329. Not too sure if you have been rip off in the cost, but still, keep that shots. And if you really want to work in this line, I suggest you do freelance unless you can get yourself to reputable companies. But then again, you will be competing with so many other models for jobs. Furthermore, your company will keep a portion of the commission - before giving you your comission.
This 'rest' is up to the integrity of your agent because chances are, you will not be in the scene where the negotiation take place (unless he/she is very open about the deal and show you 'proof' about the deal). It is still very much the 'trust' with your agent/company and should they cut a whole chunk of commission for themselves - naturally you will get less. This is also where people can be a fucker because many things are confidential and not known to the model.
For me, yunhaier see no need for modelling companies (although big clients usually find reputable modelling company, but this isn't always neccessary). If you can eliminate the middle man, in fact, you will be earning more.
Widen contacts and establish network. And of course, learn more and not follow blindly at what people are saying. This industry quite complicated as well.

Never ever trust any modelling agencies that is advertised through a namecard when you walk along Orchard Rd. Just ignore them when they approach you. They just care about getting you sign up for the course and get the money. They don't care if you will become successful or not in the modelling world.
Only these few model agencies in sg that can be trusted and it's already famous for producing quality pan-asian models:

-questmodels -

however, how u perform during the casting is another issue...
so i wouldnt say the TS got conned... -
