Why are kids nowadays so afraid of insects?

  Why are kids(age maybe say less than 1 so scared of a small beetle? See one act as if they have seen a ghost???
  
  I think it is because of lifestyle changes...Kids nowadays straightaway after school go back do homework.After that,for their recreation,they hang around the internet or stay fixed to the latest game consoles...As a result,they have minimal interaction with Mother Nature.
  
  Unlike kids from the past(me included), I remember always catching guppies,tadpoles,grasshopers and spiders with my peers after school.As a result,we have been socialized to be not afraid of insects...Sure my time(the glorious 80s) got things like Western Bar and Golden Axe but they were not as popular as DOTA is now...
  
  Last night,somehow a small beetle flew and clung to my shirt collar.My 15 year old cousin(a sportsman in his school) saw it first and pointed it out to me in a very nervous manner.I looked at the cute little thing and calmly removed it with my bare hands. When I was holding the beetle,the boy actually moved away from me...What the...

  i think parents and maids play a part.

  when i was a kid, i wasnt
  
  then one day, my mom happily locked me in the bathroom with LOTS of HUGE moths and flying ants as some sorta punishment (so happen there were tons of those flyin stuff cos it rained that afternoon )
  then after that, i was TERRIFIED of all insects
  
  but im ok now

  Maybe we can condition the kids . Give them soft toys of beetles and lizards to play, rather than bears and rabbits. Then they won't be so scared of the real thing LOL.

  When i was young, i and my bro always caught insects like grasshoppers, spiders, ants, C0ckroaches and lizards to play with.. so now also not afraid of any insects.. I cant think of any insects that i am afraid off.. maybe bees or hornets or those that sting.. i think i more afraid of those..

  Hmm... For me i am some timid guy who is scared of any kinda insect.... even ants can give me goosebumps

  When I was younger not so scared, these days I just try to avoid trouble with them, but if they come then I just off my light and wait patiently for the insect to fly out.

  I tink you haven't got your facts right.
  1. It's not only kids........ adults like me oso very scared of creepy crawlies
  2. It's not just nowadays........ it's been like this since time immemorial
  
  I scared of insects coz I'm afraid that if I handle them wrongly, I'll just squish them lah.........
