Why are kids nowadays so afraid of insects?

  Actually, I wasn't scared. Until I stupidly tried to handle this big flying ant with gigantic jaws at age 10. I touched it and it promptly impaled my finger with its huge jaws and pinched like hell. So painful, some more after I whacked it dead, its jaws still clamped, so scary, after that I a bit more apprehensive.
