I think the anger is more than evading taxes. There is also the issue of nationalism - i.e. selling a strategic interest to a foreign country, which some find it unthinkable. Even in Singapore, we have laws to protect & ensure that no one single individual (be it local or foreign) own more than certain % of companies deemed strategically important (eg: Singtel, DBS, SPH, not sure if SIA also included). For Shin Corp, which controls the telecommunication and being sold to Singapore govt may not go down well with the Thais.
Interestingly, the Thai King has chose to remain silent, perhaps to come out at an opt time to call off the coup & pardon Thaksin so that he can balek kampong haha.
anyone know the whereabouts of his daughter ? U noe, the one that was selling McDonalds a few years before ? Is she in Singapore as well ?
Hmm... I scare if the coup really succeed, the new government in order to solidify his position by using Singapore as scapegoat and report Thaksin collaborate with Foreign power in selling off National Asset to foreign power and organise mass anti-singapore rally. I will not be surprise even they manage to find out some under-table deal between Thaksin and Temasek Holding which will be very damaging to Thailand and Singapore relationship!
Singapore as a small country in ASEAN has a history of being use as scapegoat for other political turmoil just like when we are being accuse of unfair treatment to their Filipino maid of philipine one and half decades ago!
