I think SPH is currently supporting some fund which benefits quite a list of schools, I think that list of schools might be reviewed soon.Originally posted by gerrykoh:SPH can jolly well afford a full page apology ad. & donate a big sum of money to charity- they are very rich

Should we offer SPH reasonable doubt?Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:They did think before they write, otherwise, you will see SPH losing a lot of money.
The words allegedly and generalization are not put there for fun, it's meant to bail them out of trouble if somebody ever complains.
The use of the weasel word 'allegedly' may not necessarily work unless there is a large body of opinion that it is so..otherwise anyone can defame you by saying that you 'allegedly' are a rapist, wife-beater and child molester. There is a defence against defamation if you make it clear you were just expressing an opinion rather than saying it was true but that defence is not usually accepted in Singapore. Guess SPH's defence will be on the grounds of public interest but that defence can and has been defeated before as well in similar circumstances when it involved opposition party members.Originally posted by BillyBong:Should we offer SPH reasonable doubt?
Should we assume that they indeed wrote it in that manner but used words such as 'allegedly' to signal their intentions that the matter was open to healthy debate and were not meant to be inflamatory? If defensive words such as 'allegedly' can be used simply because it's an 'escape clause' for writers to worm themselves out of legal issues, then its more than likely everyone will think they can write things on a whim and get away with it.

SPH does have a right to be given reasonable doubt. Reason? I don't know what's their intention for writing such an article.Originally posted by BillyBong:Should we offer SPH reasonable doubt?
