What I feel is that the reason why countries like Singapore, China and Malaysia will never catch up with the current giants is that very negative mentality we have. In this case, I think that whoever wants to defend the IJ girls should first wonder why such things are said of IJ girls and not of the other girls schools. There are more than 20 girls schools in Singapore and if IJ girls have been singled out for this behavior by more than an individual then there must have been a very good reason. -
its just a problem with sterotypes. People tend to remember the bad. Which usually happens to be an event or happening that is true, whether big or small, one way or the other.
But from my ij friend's point of view, such things as mentioned in the papers do happen, and when these things happen and word gets about, it only further worsens the rep of the sch.
Perhaps the author was reffering from this point of view, where the 'allegedly' is the sterotype which is not entirely untrue, but far from the truth as well -

I am an ex girls' school student:
So what's up with convent girls or girls' school girls?
There are mixed school girls hanging around in shopping centres, shouting from one end to another at Mac and pulling guys shirts and tickling each other in public, kissing each other in trains...etc...
And where do Ah lians normally come from? And you mean all the mixed school girls don't fold up their skirts? Hey, i had even seen them unbottoning their shirts all the way to the upper second button... How Conservative...
And how about those dyed hairs, wearing make up to schools and flaunting their coloured bras under white blouses? Can i say they are there to seduce the guys?
Oh then you would say not all your girls are like that right? There are really nice and decent ones, of course i believe you, coz we have nice people in ours too!
And ahem, who are the ones with better results? It's so true that girls school girls can play hard and study hard at the same time, some even excel in sports too. And the drop out rates in mixed schools are so much higher. And by the way, even when we make noise, we use PROPER ENGLISH.
We do mix with the boys' school guys. (Hey, at least we go for those better quality ones than the mixed sch bengs okay?) Call us easy, but you know what? Some guys can only LOOK, and we don't even know they exist. Then they start calling us names like stuck up and loose. How loose are we when they don't even have access to our toenails?
And when we meet up with the guys, we do study together, and here I mean really study, not sit at Burger King to kiss and touch thighs. And oh, of coz not all are angellic in our schools as well.
So...
If you want to call us loose, look at your own schools too. There are black sheeps everywhere. So don't sterotype. It's not fair, you get it, People? -

I was from a Average Boys School.. it depends.. yr kids doesnt means the whole of SG Students in Single Sex school.. We had seen RI, RGS and MGS girls with opposite sex around town too.. arent they dating or hanging out with opposite sex? Those schools accept top PSLE students of coz they will produce good students and better results than all due to their better school system. You cant just say single sex school are better.
Then those teenagers from Elite Single Sex Schools go into JCs, then their study will suffer right since all JCs are mixed colleges. -

There's a difference in self discipline between a 13 yr old sec sch student & a 17 yr old JC student. My parents sent me to girls' school to protect me. You should know how curious sec school guys use girls to do biology experiment right? They are trying to minimise the chances.
In a girls' school, the disciplinary system, the rules and the influence is very different from a mixed school. And like any teenagers, we have fun, but we know the importance of getting good grades as well.
Parents are not dumb to send their children to single sex schools... Most girls' parents would want to protect their daughter to the max, but of coz, you need good grades to get in too... So for those who didn't send, perhaps it's not because they are smarter than my parents, but coz I am smarter than their daughter? -
There some elite schools that are mixed as well.. such as Dunman High and River Valley High. They score high in results. I think many missed the point. There are good and bad students in EVERY school. The article wrote the ''allegedly easy", which is the point of dispute. Somehow, the previous two pages seems to be arguing about differences between single-sex/mixed schs and reputable ones and less reputable ones.
So, i dun see a need to start comparing schools ... to strengthen the argument ... -

The truth is, if IJ management board actually just ignored that statement, this would probably fade away very fast. But now that they are ardently pursuing this lawsuit, it now becomes a matter of public record.
Most people (readers) would just glance through it and that statement probably would not imprint itself into their memories. Now with this thing blown up, everytime someone sees an IJ girl, immediately that statement will come to mind.
The IJ management board kinda kicked themselves in the arse. -
