First, we have the papacy condemning Islam as violent, now we have Catholic schools straying from the tradition of forgiveness. So much for the RC faith.

Personally, i think it's very insensitive of SPH. I mean come on, if you have a gf in CHIJ, how would you feel? If you have a daughter there, how would you feel?
Also, "allegedly" and "generalisation" is not enough to cover SPH ass.
SPH will likely end up paying and apologising. -

According to reports, before they decided to sue in this case, CHIJ board actually complained to PMO and MITI for numerous previous derogatory articles (I think 14, but I am not sure) that appeared in the space of two weeks. There was no publicity then and so nodoby was any the wiser. This one would have also escaped the public's notice if not for the suit.
They would probably use any settlement they receive for their children's charities...
I hope SPH pays up... -

In writing the article, the journalist has to observed two principles:
1) to ensure the authencity of the information and avoid distorting the truth or fabricating a "fact". If she has the information from somewhere, she has to quote the source.
2) to be sure what is the end result achieved (ie. how will the readers perceive CHIJ after reading)
Failure of observing either of the two above, CHIJ management has the right to sue.
I hope the journalist learn her lesson. There are many powerful women out there (lawyers, businesswomen or other professionals) who are ex IJ girls. In the past articles, there have been mentioning of a few names and there are many more other there that have not been mentioned. These ladies, with their status and qualifications, will never sit back and keep quiet about such article. -

This, in my opinion is hard to do so. A journalist only writes, but how will the people interpret is another thing. Some may choose to interpret in a bad way, others will see an article as a joke and not bother. -
Can anyone imagine the sunday times lifestyle section minus such articles anymore? Man, sundays are going to be boring.

Then the NKF cases in the past (before TT Durai saga)... SPH reporters wrote things... but SPH somehow was immuned but the SPH reporter told to settle personally.
I think they never lost in court before.. but most cases settled out of court if they know they are in the wrong....
e.g. SPH printed before Mr Toh Chin Chye (ex minister) was arrested.
