Ya. Defamation cases are very difficult ones. Some of my lawyer friends don't seem to be very keen in taking up this kind of case. In Singapore's system, it's very hard for the prosecutor to win, unless you have lotsa money. (Defamation case is very expensive according to my friends).Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:This, in my opinion is hard to do so. Thanks for your interesting prospective on this case.Originally posted by skyfoo:Whatever it is, IJ management made the wrong move by writing the complain letter to ST forum. While on the paper it appears that they are trying to defend CHIJ's reputation, it appears to me that they just want sympathy from the public as well as promotion of CHIJ through this infamy. Perhaps what they want as the results are newfound reputation of defeating SPH, which "destroyed" NKF, and to use the incident to bond all the CHIJ girls, especially the alumni. And the increased of alumni supports is always directly linked to the donations. Just my guess.
Haha. Thanks, so you're implying that their sole intention is just to defend their reputation? I highly doubt so.Originally posted by Honeybunz:Thanks for your interesting prospective on this case.
But I disagree with the fact that they wants sympathy (they dun need. many parents and teachers are rich and the schools are backed by rich donors). The students are usually daughters of some lawyers or doctors.
As for the new found reputation, again I disagree. Much as they are vocal now, having a reputation or make themselves publicly know is now a priority.
Anyway, your guess is somewhat interestingly refreshing.![]()
hear hear!!!Originally posted by freakass:I agree with SPH... Sometimes I really wonder why parents want to send their daughters to single sex schools... What is wrong with having boys around? Especially primary school where all are just kids! Growing up without proper interaction with boys may have some side effects... The same goes for boys who have been in single sex schools.... when these people go to JC and they start to mix around with frens of the opposite sex, things start to go wild... and this is how the "IJ girls are easy with guys" mentality came about....
The point is: The more parents want to restraint their kids from mixing around with the opposite sex, the more things will go wrong when they grow up...
Aiyah, you know ar, some girls are damn geh gow one. One little word can make until machiam ice cube into ice kachang.Originally posted by tanjun:I just wonder why IJ management has to sue SPH. Firstly, SPH did not really make a sweeping statement as it uses the word "allegedly". Secondly, IJ management can choose to adopt a more amicable approach perhaps by writing an article to The Straits Times forum to clarify and to rebutt the information presented by SPH.
They are a bunch of vocal ladies who are ex IJ students. With their social status, to them, the school reputation is their pride, dignity and justice.Originally posted by skyfoo:Haha. Thanks, so you're implying that their sole intention is just to defend their reputation? I highly doubt so.

If for this little case they go to court and is published in the papers, it's a joke.Originally posted by tanjun:If they are successful into getting SPH into legal action, I will think that Singapore will have a lot more to go towards the freedom of mass media.

I agree that there are some good mixed schools like Dunman High but if u checking Ranking of Sec. School u will realise that single sex sch. like Cedar Girls, Cres. Girls, SJI, IJ schools, SCGS, St Anthony, Catholic High etc are consistently found in the list.Originally posted by Urroh:There some elite schools that are mixed as well.. such as Dunman High and River Valley High. They score high in results. Whether in single or mixed schools, as long the will to get good grades are there and the school system is good.. there is no difference.
Your remarks smacks of Eliteism.

But are they being insulted in the first place? Or they are guilty of it? There's no fire without fuel.Originally posted by gerrykoh:If someone insults your school, u should not keep quiet.
Also they don't need to use the publicity to generate donations. They never have problems raising funds cos the ex students & parents are generous.
The IJ school spirit is very strong that is why ex students will continue to send their daughters there.
