cos i heard frm ppl say that australia is like use $ to buy cert. so juz checkin if it is really use $ to buy cert.
(1) It is extremely difficult, if you don't wish to put in effort. In fact, if you don't put effort into anything, you get nothing.Originally posted by mitgalant:Hi guys, juz wanna check out somethin regardin abt oversea degree.

firstly, this thread is abt some of the difficulties i might face overseas and not about whether my english is fantastic or not ?Originally posted by trendz:first of all; i doubt your proficiency in english would really impress me.
If you're unable to speak perfect english; or inadvertently pepper your sentences with Singlish cause of a dreadful 'habit' which seeped through and entrenced in your articulation; unable to switch seamlessly, then i guess you had better stay in Singapore to soak in the 'Singaporean atmosphere LAH'.
Only the dumb f*cks would waste 3 yrs of their lives studying for a f*cked up diploma; (and f*ckin' dorks spending 2 yrs in JC [& failed their A levels]) ie to say a course which either they're not interested in, not cut out for it or simply the job field isn't wide at all.
Many poly idiots get a sole dip but are not within the top 5%; thus no direct entry to Sg unis.
anyway, the top 0.2% would be able to enter SMU. so treat NUS or NTU as a consolation.
Moreoever staying in Singapore & sticking by their f*cked up education system all your life; havin' no o/seas exposure at all would really sorta disgust me in; one way or another.
You're not buying a degree. You pay 25K for a 2 yr course takin' your bachelors; in a pretty laid back system in a fast-paced environment. It's tough; more so if you're chinese speaking. (but i guess you'll somehow grasp the essence of the English language more or less; learn abt the (aussie, uk, o/seas) culture, enhance your tertiary education & personal experiences.
Enjoy the sights & sounds, full of activities you can do there; not forgetting the babes. Enjoy the exposure; and nudists exposing![]()

Why would you care if someone else's English impresses you? Singlish is already part and parcel of most Singaporeans' lives, if not all. It doesn't mean that if one's English is bad, he/she would fare badly in Australia. Take that elitism mindset off you. The world has changed.Originally posted by trendz:first of all; i doubt your proficiency in english would really impress me.

If one is truly interested in that course, then their 3 years is not wasted. Interest spurs a person to do well, even if they are not well within the top 5%.

Moreoever staying in Singapore & sticking by their f*cked up education system all your life; havin' no o/seas exposure at all would really sorta disgust me in; one way or another.Again, one having no overseas exposure is none of your business, unless you are an employer. If one choose not to go overseas, what can do to them?

It will only be 2 years if they grant you advanced standings.

Only the dumb f*cks would waste 3 yrs of their lives studying for a f*cked up diploma; That's a pretty c*cky comment. Looks like you have some kind of a personal grudge against diploma holders. if no, care to explain why a diploma is f*cked up and why a diploma holder is a dumb f*ck??
Moreoever staying in Singapore & sticking by their f*cked up education system all your life; havin' no o/seas exposure at all would really sorta disgust me in; one way or anotherOnce again, you are just ranting about what you like/dislike without giving any concrete reasons. Why do you feel not having overseas experience is bad? Are you telling me that all the successful people in Singapore have overseas experience??
I tink the part abt degree over poly is more for gahment sector as they are heavily influenced by academic qualification. I worked inside and I know. Degree holders sit in cubicles with high panel "walls" whereas poly holders all gather in one area with short panel "walls" and can see each other. Such is a mentality the gahment sector imposes. Scholars have it even better. Got a office with a door!Originally posted by spinsugar:Maybe he's just frustrated at the general attitude towards local dips.. sg tends to underpay its own ppl, except in the realli specialised fields / top management positions. Despite our nation's er, progress, local dip holders are still widely perceived as inferior to all degree holders, whether or not the quality of their work proves otherwise ... they basically run a high risk of getting short-changed.
And uh, although he didn't put it too diplomatically, I get what he means.. sg is still a pretty conservative society and the education is very theory-based.. up till today, little or no emphasis is put on practical knowledge, even if employers are beginning to see the value of it and pick their new hires accordingly... on top of this, practical knowledge is limited in sg (not by our own fault) and tt's a reason y companies are increasingly opting for "foreign talent".
haish, i pvt sector.. frus coz din complete studies & come back frm overseas, parents tapped my uni fees to wind up company.. =\ few times company wanted to promo me, but I no degree so .... yeah sure, they admitted my performance and intelligence is on par with other degree holders of higher positions, but in the end they passed up on it coz they "gotta be fair to other staff" since it's a "company requirement"..Originally posted by sohguanh:I tink the part abt degree over poly is more for gahment sector as they are heavily influenced by academic qualification. As for private sector, I tink they do prefer poly over degree holders over technical position jobs as to the employers, it is how much work churned out than open mouth tok big in meeting that will bring in profits for company.
spinsugar, your feel is becuz you work in gahment sector or private sector? Of cuz if one wanna move up for promotion, private sector also look at academic qualifications I tink. So the best bet is to get a degree for backup purposes![]()
So all poly ppl, for promotion wise best to get a external degree for backup. Despite your strong work performance, you will still be passed for promotion due to academic qualifications. Such is the way Spore works.Originally posted by spinsugar:*chuckle* but i think nvm la, this is just a job.. i'm saving up to complete my studies overseas (which is totally unrelated to my current work btw). Tahan abit more onli![]()

I don't think that speaking good English is elitism, sure, singlish is part and parcel of Singaporean lives but on an international level and English being considered an almost international language, you can't expect others in other countries to comprehend you by speaking singlish. Life doesn't only revolve around Singapore.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Why would you care if someone else's English impresses you? A note of advice, a direct honours course doesn't gurantee you honours.Originally posted by mitgalant:thanks everyone for your support.
