FBI can't do it, CID can? I only know FBI can piece back everything even if you splash the hard disk with acid, smash it into pieces with a hammer, etc.
i guess so.Originally posted by monoslayer:were they betrayed by their ISP?![]()

i don't think this is possible as you tend not to stay at a place for a long time...Originally posted by GhostStalker:I heard of it poosible to get detected even u coonect to anonymous wireless hotspot to d/l mp3. I believe so... they have the ability & "Astar" technology to track u down once u logged on to whatever where ever the anonymous connection may be. However, I doubt they would use it on moderate music down loaders in hotspots for now... SOON maybe.Originally posted by GhostStalker:I heard of it poosible to get detected even u coonect to anonymous wireless hotspot to d/l mp3. all they need is the alleged harddisk in working shape (i.e. still in 1 piece).
as far as i know to really make data on harddisk unretrivable is to open up the disk and contaminate the cylinders, or you heat up the cylinders over sustained heat.
or crack the cylinders.
As far as I know, servers do collect such information. Some simple JavaScript can be made, embedded as part the HTML codes and your information will be logged. I've done that to keep track of users. Not too sure if it works for P2P, but if download directly off websites, the JavaScript works. That's how they check.Originally posted by oozie:I believe so... they have the ability & "Astar" technology to track u down once u logged on to whatever where ever the anonymous connection may be. (easy target)
Btw can anyone confirm this.... I think once we are connected, may it be home, hotspot or our sch/work place. Besides IP address, our HARDWARE & SYSTEM INFORMATION will also be recorded correct?
Because most of our hardwares like HDD, modem/wireless cards also have unique IDs, s/no. or part no. and not forgetting our software like OS, P2P programs also have ID & so on... with these information they can easily collect evidence & trace where the files are down loaded to. After that they will monitor the user for sometime... when least expected they will suddenly pounce on the unsuspecting prey
(free to correct if wrong)
