I think as long as the gal is not fat, not ugly, has a pleasant disposition and speaks passable english, she will get in.
SIA are desperate for stewardesses. About 60-70 service crew per aircraft.
I know of one who looks like a guai guai girl, a little nerdy and another who has big hips. Most seem to me like really "hiao", materialistic and can't wait to bang a pilot. Yeh, come to think of it, standards really has dropped. -

You are not hiring these girls to be lecturers or speakers, basically they are just flying waiter and waitress, so do not expect them to be grade on giving speeches. -
It's more than just "high-flying" waiters and waitresses. We are concerned about the SIA girl's image. That is a selling point for SIA and contributes indirectly to their profit margin.......

Yup. We are talking about world class. SIA girls must have the qualities to represent Singapore n SIA to serve people of different continent on board. If you are talking about budget airline, seriously, dun expect too much.

stewardess nowadays not as glam a job as before liaoz. Moreover, now SIA face competition with other airlines (including budget airlines) for stewardess. Thats why in the terms of selection, they've to relax abit, otherwise they won't have sufficient ppl to man the planes.
Also, deterioration of service could also be atrributed to other factors such as morale, outlook and personal belief. We all know that SIA is not the highest paying airline around, and more recently we heard of the acrimony between the crew and the management in terms of pay. All these and more could possibly contribute to the service level.
Its prevalent complain that local girls cannot speak good English, remember the case on the Ms Singapore who cannot speak properly ? And I think, its an known secret that ang moh passengers are preferred, they form the majority of the frequent flyers and they are the ones who fly the First / Business class - the main profit generators for SIA. Hence, its only logical that they pay more attention to the ang mohs....I myself also feel agreived. Damm. -

whenever i read about those people in SIA demanding for more money, i pity those who can't ask for more because there is no union to protect them at all -
SIA actually has competitive pay for service crew compared to HK, M'sia etc. Pay for airline employees are also pegged to the standard of living in the region. The recent dispute is between APLA-S (pilots) and SIA over the airbus 380.
I think it's got to do with SIA's plans to rapidly increase its fleet and therefore they badly need stewardesses. Hence, the lowering of selection criterion. -

The engineers that service the planes are among the lowest paid in the industry. And they just got their pay squeezed recently. The union peeps for the engineers are afraid for their jobs so they just agree to what management says. -

Service must be in your blood if you want to excel in this industry... Franky, I think alot of the young stewards / stewardess don't have that pride in their profession... So how can they deliver good service? -
