  I have basic needs la.
  
  be able to make/receive phone calls/SMS
  camera function preferably at least 2mp but if 1.3mp only MAYBE can
  FM radio
  
  Preferably a relatively recent model since erm, I don't plan on changing my phone again for the next 2 years
  
  But my budget is umm.. below $500

  AND, preferably the phone will allow me to customize ringtones for various caller groups and also use my personal SMS alert tone other than those that come with the phone...

  flip fones one of the fastest to spoil leh
  
  and samsung flip fones the "tiak" sound not nice one
  panasonic one is SOLID!

  hmm i like flip phones because there's a little more privacy and less chances of the main screen getting scratched... and looks nicer on somebody making a call

  fastest to spoil... you mean the flip flip part?
  
  actually for my own phone, it's already 2+ years old and it's still working well...
  
  BUT i've heard of the flip flip part becoming faulty not long after a person buys it la... so this part i'm not too sure.

  I just saw the Nokia 6233... function-wise it meets my expectations but aesthetically-speaking... it's not my type
