I guess why some of the people who don't have the common sense to give up their seats is that, if they stand in the bus, they will face difficulty. They cannot control their balance as when the bus brake or whatever, those who stand may lose their control and move here and there causing incovience to the rest, and when people want to get out of the bus, those who are standing must squeeze until like sardine to let those to pass through while those sitting, can shake their legs happily So maybe that is the reason why people are not willing to give up the seats if the bus is crowded
For me, I don't have the courage to say out to those who need the seats and give the seats to them

I will not really bother to give up my seat because most of the time, the other party don't even thank you or acknowledge the gesture.
Sometimes, if I see a pregnant woman or old folk and they smile at me, then I will give up my seat. Sometimes, I can't tell whether a woman is pregnant or just have a fat tummy. Somtimes, I sleep on the train so I don't have to decide whether to give up my seat. -
I gave up my seat twice to preggie women and old folks but was declined quite a few times... super pai seh -
Of all the threads i read in Sgforums, I find this thread the most humorous

anyway... this kinda scene is very common liao la...
what my xperience is, in the bus... its rather crowded.... there is this girl.. she was walking towards the rear of the bus.. then the bus move off and then she fell down... well she just had a minor fall and hit onto a middle aged aunty... she middle aged aunty immediately shouted and diao her... lol... imagine the girl just fall and accidentally hit her platic bag of vegetable, dont even have time to say sorry kena scold alrdy... hahah .. in the end the girl got so ashamed that she dropped off the next stop...
hahah.. well u can see, its the parents that are the ones that did not teach their children well... they dont even have the basic forgiveness in them.. hahah what more do you want them to give up their seats? haah think abt it.. hahah makes me laugh sometimes.... hahhaha

be careful when you give up your seat to a pregnant woman.
dont end up giving it up to someone with a tummy but not pregnant. -
Haix. Working adults wants to avoid all those trouble so dun give up is ok.
But students no choice. Especially those from elite schools. You don't give up ur seat, someone will take photo and next day send to newspaper. Then ppl will all write in to focus on that incident, say what good school also cannot teach right. Making it look as if that student is the only 1 in Spore who dun give up his seat -

Must Singaporeans 'behave like pigs'?
RECENTLY, my friend from Australia commented that Singaporeans behaved like pigs. I disagreed, saying that at most it's a small minority who behaved that way.
He challenged me to a test. I accepted his challenge, determined to prove him wrong. I was bitterly disappointed.
Here is an account of what happened.
My friend, my wife, our one-year-old son in a pram and I (wearing a neck brace and with my arm in a sling from injuries sustained in a car accident) went for an MRT ride. My wife and son couldn't get into the station for some time because other commuters kept using the gate meant for the disabled, ignoring her and the pram.
When the train arrived, people rushed in while alighting passengers rushed out. No one gave way to my wife and the pram. She had to compete with the horde to get onto the train. To make things worse, those standing at the doorway refused to move in, making it even more difficult for her.
Once on board, no one bothered to give up his seat to my wife, who was carrying our son. Those seated were young, able-bodied and educated (executive-type) adults. Finally, it was two Thai workers who gave up their seats to us.
Later, an old woman boarded the train. Again, no one gave up his seat until a man in a neck brace and an arm sling did so.
When we reached our destination, we tried to take the lift from the platform to the ticket concourse. The lift was packed with able-bodied people. My friend asked that my wife and the pram be allowed in but one man turned around and remarked rudely, 'Why can't you take the next lift?'. I was shocked beyond words.
We went to a packed food court for lunch. No tables were available. We waited and finally noticed a couple leaving. We inched our way towards their table but, with just 5m to go, a group of office girls ran ahead of us and took the table.
When we finally got a table, it was unbelievably messy. There were chicken bones, spilt sauces and prawn shells all over the table.
I turned red in the face when my friend, who was helping to clear the table, asked, 'So, do you still think that it's only a minority of Singaporeans that behave this way? If so, take a look around you. Look real hard at the tables when they leave... You guys eat like pigs.'

Sry lah kid, i used to be fat that is why i still cannot stand those that biased against fat people. What does going sliming programme got to do with giving up seats to the needy?? what is the difference between a fat pple not giving up a seat compared with a skinny one?? YES there is. A fat guy not giving up a seat all i need to do is to give a F.U. A skinny guy i need to make more effort, give u a spinebuster, then a peoples' elbow running to the first cabin then to the last then back to mid again dropping my elbow breaking your weak shoulder!! -

Well, some skinny people take up more spaces than fat people. Fat people body + bag maybe 1.5 seats but skinny people (mostly are students or elderly) body + bag need 2 spaces + floor space.
Hence body size is NOT directly proportionate to seating capacity needed. -

Of all the people who saw this happen, no one said a thing? Obviously the plump guy thought he could get away with it and well, ta-da he did!
The few times my fiance and I came across some younger people snatch seats from under pregnant ladies / older people's noses, we just piped up, "hey boy/girl, mind if u let this auntie/uncle/lady sit? That guy/girl gave his/her seat up for him/her de." All the times we've done that, the young punk just act blur and quickly run off. -

my bio teacher got so mad once that she called a person an asshole on the bus but that was when she first arrived in singapore...
but really ah...in singapore, people dont have the habit of giving their seats to those who need it -
