I am starting to doubt NEA meaurement of air pollution. Only 130 at this moment? They have to be kidding.
This is what i found in wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollutant_Standards_Index
"The Pollutant Standards Index, or PSI, provides a uniform system of measuring pollution levels for the major air pollutants. It is based on a scale devised by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to provide a way for broadcasts and newspapers to report air quality on a daily basis.
The PSI is reported as a number on a scale of 0 to 500 and is the air quality indicator. These index figures enable the public to determine whether the air pollution levels in a particular location are good, unhealthy, hazardous or worse. The PSI is used in a number of countries including the United States and Singapore. [b]However since 1999, the United States EPA has replaced the Pollution Standards Index (PSI) with the Air Quality Index (AQI) to incorporate new PM2.5 and ozone standards."
It is stated in NEA's website:
"Note:
Hourly updates of 3-hr PSI readings are provided from 6am to 12am.The 3-hr PSI readings are calculated based on PM10 concentrations only."![]()

Must be a way to hide the truth. Based on today's reading:Originally posted by hisoka:any one wonders or knows why its 3-hour and not every hour since they are reporting it hourly? an hourly average, figure or max would give us a better picture of the present haze situation won't it?
Simply add 20 to everything NEA reports.Originally posted by Deportivo:Must be a way to hide the truth. Based on today's reading:
2pm : 115
3pm : 127
so to calculate 4pm reading we need 3 hour average, since 4pm : 130, therefore:
(115 + 127 + x) / 3 = 130
(241 + x) / 3 = 130
241 + x = 390
therefore, x = 149 !!!!
yet based on "average" reading, it is stated as 130.
I'm also quite sceptical about the readings.. its so hazy outside this morning and yet it was under 100..Originally posted by Deportivo:Must be a way to hide the truth. Based on today's reading:

it looks like its evening throughout e day in sengkangOriginally posted by mistyblue:Anyways, the numbers are just numbers. Go around the country and different parts is affected differently. Jurong area is bad, Punggol is really bad, but the east side is not so bad. Anyways, mediacorspe/NEA will not want to spark massive panic, so might under report anyways... that day PSI 150, I don't know cause in Punggol, the roads just next to the HDB flats is totally not visible. Its definitely higher than 150.
