[b]Yes, most are sexually transmitted technically and that was the point I was trying to make. The causal association is almost affirmative (>90% cervical cancer is triggered by HPV). However, having only one partner is not a risk factor. /b]
I can safely quote Lympathic cancer person.Originally posted by gerrykoh:Not true. I spoke to one Ambulance driver- he tells me cancer very quick esp. advanced stage, most don't last more than 6 mths.
Those suffering from kidney failure is worst. Got a fren whose mother-in-law needs dialysis 3 times a week, she has been undergoing treatment for years & the family is in dire straits
None taken. I was merely bringing up issues which I had a personal interest in. As well as what some of my friends are going thru and would like to discuss what its about.Originally posted by kaister:No offence but vicouskitty74, you shouldn't use scare tactics to put people off cancer. Many forms of cancer are treatable and have little chance of recurrance.
Most forms of cancers are not terminal illnesses and can be treated.
They rejected your blood donation because there's still chance of cancer cells in your blood and they do not want to take that risk. That doesn't mean you're not eradicated. It's the same reasoning when they reject people who stayed in UK in the 1990s for fear of mad-cow's disease (BSE), not because they have it.

Not cancer of the endometrium (lining of the owmb) but cervical cancer (the neck of the womb) is practically always related to the human papilloma virus, which is transmitted by sexual activity. Thankfully, a new vaccine against this virus is now available.Originally posted by viciouskitty74:Aye...but not all cervical/womb cancer is due to sexual activity.
Low grade cancers of the lymphatic system or 'lymphoma' is compatible with long survival but unfortunately they are not curable. Remember the late president Ong Teng Cheong? When the cancer first started, it progressed so slowly that no treatment was necessary initially, but eventually it progressed and finally killed him. In fact, low grade lymphoma such as small lymphocytic lymphoma was excluded from some 'critical illness insurance policies'. I saw one many years ago...the policy included cancer but the small print included some exceptions...skin cancer and small lymphocytic lymphoma were not covered.Originally posted by viciouskitty74:I can safely quote Lympathic cancer person.
One Lady, with 3 sons (all Scholars btw). She started with breast & then proceed to Lympo cancer, struggled, live for 17 years with her hubby taking care of her until she finally succumbed to various lung infections about 4 years ago.
She died at age 50.
In the process, losing her breasts, her hair, constant chemo, difficulty in walking, shitting and eating.
Another lady which I know. Had volatile Breast Cancer, she is single and 45 years old. Had her breasts removed and she has difficulties bringing up her arms. Her cancer is known as being under remission. She has to try to cope on these for the past 10 years. And she is still a Volunteer and holding down a full time secretarial job. She chooses to be alive, to help others.
The IARC has classified HPV 16/18 as group 1 carcinogens way back in 1995. HPV can be identified in both squamous and adenocarcinoma of the cervix.Originally posted by viciouskitty74:HPV acceralates the formations of cervical cancer. The vaccine is currently under clinical trials (phase 3 if I'm not wrong). It has shown promise in both preventive and post-detection eradication of certain serotypes of HPVs (16 and 18 only - not total coverage).Originally posted by viciouskitty74:Cool. Where and how to acquire the vaccine?
