Seriously what is wrong with being mistaken for PRC/Taiwan? 9 of 10 people that I meet think im PRC, when i speak to them in chinese they think im from taiwan because no china accent. - go takashimaya n sometimes salesgals will whisper amongst themselves "aiyer, china girl also know how to shop here ah? hahaha....."
Wah lao, really kao bei kao bu kanasai man!! This is my country too ok! I m 4th generation somemore.
If u r a Singaporean guy n this happens to ur mother, wife or sister juz coz' they happen to not look typically S'porean, how would u feel?

Just treat it as a compliment because PRC girls and guys are more yandao than locals?

I mean, 90% of the time, the general local attitude or reaction to a PRC or PERCEIVED PRC female is negative or even outright condescending n rejecting.
Look at the list of usual local behaviours I've encountered in being mistaken for a PRC.
Imagine facing this ever so often.
Even if I try to, it's difficult to take this as a compliment. -

Went to this restaurant in Suntec basement (the one next to Thai Express) with 3 other frens n the guy would speak English to everyone BUT me. Ironically, I m the only one of the 4 who comes from an English-speaking family.
Also, this bizzare thing happened when i went to this hospital in the East:
I was visiting my grandma n this local Indian nurse asked me with her finger pointed straight in my face... "eh, u from China issit?"...at 1st i laughed it off then b4 i could answer properly, she added "u look like u r from China". This even as she was well aware that the 82 yr-old Singaporean she'd been tending to is my grandmother. -
