Remember the man who killed himself at Chinese Garden Mrt station few days back...He actually gave 9 Dollars to his son and instruct his son to take care of his mum....Emotionly i feel attached to his case.. I mean who don have a moment of despair..How do u all feel??he is wrong,desperate or really pushed to a dead end by poverty?Thoughts

My personal suggestion is to detach yourself from such bad news, otherwise you will be affected and depressed unneccessarily.

but when you have a family and you bear the heavy responsibility to raise them,and circumstances forced you to not being able to do that and you have no one to talk to (cos males are taught not to express their feelings),depression can easily set in and when the mind is under such influence,a person may not be able to think that rational anymore. -
Too bad,our govt will only try to cover it up and pretend nothing has happened again,they will never understand what it is like to be poor and desperate

compare the difference in feeling;
1. a poor family among many families with little or no financial worries.
2. a poor family among many equally poor families.
in case 1 it is not abnormal to feel depressed and helpless if help is not forthcoming.
in case 2 it is not as bad because other families experience and feel the same way. you can seek solace in each other. -
I agree with aveme totally cos he maybe burden with all the stress...he like any other father want to give their child a good life but...

In the chinese paper, it is said that he only have $19 left. Been jobless for 4mth..... whole family eating instant noodle for mths..... no $$$ to pay for his two son school fees.
Using $9 he brought 3 pack of chicken rice for the family so that they could have a good meal........

Must state that i not a supporter of PAP or any other parties....
Pointless to blame the govt for this and that. I felt that S'porean have a bad habit of blaming Govt for every bad. We just want to find fault so that we could feel better...... bad habit
The jumper is just one of the many SAD story in this world..... let not use this as a case to blame govt...... think of all those other that benifted from the govt policiy.... i admit i could be 1 of them.
Got my own 4room HDB (with mom's name) when i'm 23. Work a dead end job but still living well..... well only, not good. Have enough to spend and go diving once in a while....... don't owe $$$ to bank, except to HDB. Live a simple life....
Should i blame govt just because i can't afford a car I still can't afford a Viet wife too..... ($10K+)
Just like to said that i feel sad that the jumper don't contect any of those help line groups for help. The wife even told the police she couldn't go to see the body of her husband the next day because she has no money to go there. There are many charity in S'pore that give help to people..... but do we know who they are.......
Question - if you have the same problem right now, do you know where to go for help ??? -

I too, read with sadness about their plight and this was discussed on a radio show this morning.
By actually taking his life, he is, in a way, leaving his problems to his children and spouse - who incidentally, is not well. If he has stayed, at least he could seek help to find work, etc to take care of his family. While we can debate until cows come home why he choose to jump, etc, I think what we can do is to see how we could help this family as well as many others who are suffering in silence to minimise future recurrance.
Its usually those who don't shout for help that need most help and it have got to do with personal pride. Whilst we see many others going to seek help wearing rolex watches or driving mercedes to grab free text books meant for needy students. What about those who are suffering, not knowing who to turn to or not wanting to "trouble" others...how can we reach out to others.
I agree partially to the point above not to blame the government, because I think to a certain extent, the government should lend a hand to these families. Reduce HDB prices or waive HDB instalment payments, utilities payments, etc are within the control of the government and agencies. Like the poor wife who cannot even afford to take transport to collect her dead spouse's body, how about free transport for her ?
Work with grassroots to identify those needy people and work on how to help them and sieve out those genuine cases - if the government has the ability to track down who is downloading illegal music, surely they have the means to track down these needy people. And I particulary don't like to hear about the RC people saying they dunno the family need help because they din't approach them. Whatever happened to pro-activeness ? -
