Review of safety at MRT stations
EXTRA safety measures may be fitted at MRT stations by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to boost commuter safety, said Minister for Transport Raymond Lim.
They could include glass panel barriers at stations with open platforms, a suggestion made by Madam Cynthia Phua (Aljunied GRC).
She had argued that such a measure, already in place in Hong Kong, will prevent fatal accidents and suicides at such above-ground stations.
Mr Lim said the LTA will assess the effectiveness of such panels and other available options before making a decision.
However, Singapore needs to strike a balance between fitting such costly safety measures and imposing extra financial costs on public transport operators.
Urging commuters to take heed of the safety instructions and announcements at the stations, Mr Lim said: 'Shared responsibility is what is needed to minimise the occurrence of such unfortunate incidents.'
and GST to fund the barriers.Originally posted by sermodabian:Oh no! another excuse for them to increase fares.

Why Brown? Because Mr. Brown was the first to put forth his article about the rising cost of living in Singapore but he was silenced, harshly and senselessly.
30 or so people gather at City Hall to show their support for Mr Brown and we should continue to support Mr. Brown's idea that 'enough is really enough'; The rising cost is unbearable for the average Singaporean.
Hence, brown. It is not a usual color and thus it sends a clear and distinct message.
Brown, because the current government way of squeezing its people feels like sh.it.
no because, you suside at MRT track, you will cause delay and appear on newspaper, while which jumping off HDB building wont make you appear on newspaper. so i was wondering, standing in the middle of a busy highway, and if lucky, a car hit you, it will cause a heavy jam and might appear on newspaper.Originally posted by weeie:i have no idea why you think that's the only way to die. the one who proposed putting barriers on mrt platforms must be someone like you.... lol

People committed suicide is because of social problems!!!
NOT because there is no glass panel!
