Is it Wrong not to take risks?

two days ago went our with 2 frens to vivo
den they started talking abt finances and investment in shares
so they ask me what i wan to do in future
i reply i jus wan a stable cubicle job lor, doesnt matter which company as long pay is decent enuff
so they chided me for lack of ambition
One say he going to invest in stocks, the other wans to buy up companies that are in the mindst of bankrupcy
but to be honest i tink their fiances pooled together is enuff for 1 lot of shares oni
den they started like expert saying which share good, den look at what balance sheet
Somehow in their eyes i am useless, and in my heart i am very tempted to tell them hor, i dunno see on tv how many times so called experts like them, also kana burned.. plus they haven even started investment yet
Oh ya to prove their superiority, they brag to me they reading books like making money etc.. and i only read storybooks

but i still love my frens all the same despite our differences, coz noe them for more than 10 yrs le -
relax la.. urs is the most secure way of living
earn enough money to,
buy a car, with $ left
fully pay ur hdb,
so u can buy a condo in the long run, and use those rents to pay the house loan.
theirs right is risky as one step means death if they do nt have capital
they may earn alot, but if something bad happens, it's sayonara to them ... they may be happy now, but it may nt be alwayz like that

it's ok to take risks, as long as u know how far u can go.
but buying a company that will go bankrupt anytime? that's more into stupidity. -
those people know how to talk but no action. work hard is more realistic..

also, no take risk = no loss.

Not only on TV lor. The Sunday Times have these theoretical investments by a few experts. The best portfolio received less than 10% of gains. The worst one don't know lost how many percentage lor (think it's more than 40%, can't remember well). Ignore them. Just do what you are comfortable with. Living a stable and secure life is nothing wrong.
From their strategies, it looks like they are taking stupid risks. Its not wrong not to take risks but it is wrong to take stupid risks. -
The really good investors dont come out talk big big la. Actually life itself is already 1 big risk. You risk getting bang down by car when you jaywalk. You risk getting hit by brick when you walk below HDB flat windows. You risk getting reprimanded/rejected when you make new suggestions to your boss.
Its impossible not to take risk -
Before you even start thinking about making investments, please read up on basic economics and accounting. Always do research. -
To avoid risk is to avoid life.
You may want a stable job, but when you take into account future prospects for Singapore and the job market, this desire is not realistic. Learning how to create and run a business is the way to go if you desire stability for the long term. -

Low risk low gain low losses - to play that - u use excess which u can contain your losses within
Which one is better? Nothing wrong with your choice - my relative made it with a stable job, a house then when he had excess he saved it to buy blue chip stocks . He is quite well off now - stable , happy and with a family. He make losses but those losses are what he can afford to contain ...not the high risk losses which can bankrupt the whole family.
Anyways those so called financial books are actually making the authors richer. What is so great about that ? -

they are full of hot air only. dun get carried away by their fart, otherwise u'll end up in crap.

U r only being prudent by planting your feet firmly on the ground. Only after you have a stable career can you build your finances to afford other things like investment mah....... So, congratulations on being level-headed!

Actually, if u look from another pt of view, ppl who aim low are less hardworking and have little improvement in their life. If at this stage, you refuse to aim high n settle for a so-so lifestyle. When the times come that your lifestyle becomes a burden for you, there will be little chance for you to make a comeback.
