Medical bill almost took my life

i have finally adhere to the statement which i find it rather absurd in the past. Singaporean can die but can't be sick.
I am at my young adult age right now and a food posioning strike me on friday night. Thinking it is almost 2.30am, i could forsee that i would either, go to the nesrest 24 hour clinic, A AND E department or just wait till the next day and see how. Things started to go through my mind which it has never occured before. Army has MO and School days had subsidies from polyclinic and now i have to be charged for medical bill almost fully like any other working adult. All of a sudden, financial analysis started its action in my mind and i must say i came form a humble family and it really worry me about the bill and medicine costs.
My chioce: i tolerated till 4am, vomited more than 7 times and finally blood came out of my throat, i changed my mind. the whole cost from taking a cab to a 24 hour clinic and consultation and medicine costs me SGD110.
I was sadden not because of my food posioning, i was sadden i have to actually go to such measure to cut down my expenses. Medical bill goes sky rocket high, packages set in to protect the poor, i am not too poor for packages and not too rich not to think about money. "I am the second child of the family, neglected." -

I came down with gastroenteritis at 8pm in the evening. I puked countless times and had very bad diarrhoea. I lost 1.5kg of water in a matter of hours and got very severely dehydrated. No way can it wait till morning.
I was luckier than the TS - at least the neighbourhood GP clinics near my home were still open. I was damn close to getting hospitalised - but the doc decided a wait and see approach.
He was luckily lenient with me - when he learnt that I was still a studying, he gave me a discount. I ended up paying $35 instead of $50++.
This sort of things really cannot wait till morning. The very fact that the TS vomitted blood suggests that it was really, really serious. -

To be frank, I don't really know how much it would cost if I wasn't given a discount.... that $50++ figure just seemed reasonable. I won't be surprised if the original charge had been $70, though.
I told the doc that I actually wanted to wait it out till morning and report sick at the UHWC at NUS, which waives consultation fees and gives discounts for medicines. I suppose he took pity on me and gave me a discount.

A&E only 70 bucks so next time u know where to go ok!!

My dad's friend turned bankrupt paying off his medical bills and even had to resort to borrowing from his friends to pay the bills. -

Why are you whinging about $110 - it's not like everyday you are going to be in that position - it's ur life or your money. Better safe than sorry. And bearing in mind taking a cab - midnight charge comes into effect since u said 4 am. So you cannot just say added up it is all $110. Want a free system? I waited in an Australian Emergency department for 4-5 hrs forgotten by the doctor until the redback spider's venom started spreading in my system from the bite and it became a medical emergency - not fun to get hooked up to a cardiac monitor. Now I think I might just use my insurance to cover that $2k ambulance ride to get seen first. -

When for a Operation at a local hospital. Ask my NTUC insurance do they cover the bills..... 3 difference staff told me 'yes', no problem...etc
Total bill comes up to 5k+. Medisave covers $1300...... the rest, $3900+ i pay 1st. Hospital then claim on my behalf from NTUC....... 2 mths later, bloody NTUC tell me max claim $1500. Take away the 1 time max 'refund' to NTUC, also $1500..... NTUC own me nothing....... now i own family member $$$.

They claim i mis-read the policy. I admit, that like most people, can't make head or tails what i sign on the doted line....... that's why i call them up to confirm. like i say..... the staff told me no problem, max claim can be up to $4200...... no one told me that NTUC can claim back a max of $1500 a yr from me. can't remeber what's the claim back called. my total claim is $3900+.... and I think that with a max claim of $4200, it should cover my whole claim. But NTUC say that my daliy claim is only $500. So 2days stay at Hospital is only $1000...... doctor fee is $500. Total claim only $1500. Lesson learn...... do your homework properly before signing the paper. If not, kena screw too late already.
But no choice. I need the Operation to improve my Health..... even if NTUC told me before the Ops that they wouldn't pay, i would still go ahead for the Ops. Just angry that the play me out last minute.
