Well, we did report the matter to the teacher, and it was like:
Friend and i : Ms XXX, that chao-ah-lian keeps spreading rumours about friend and also causing her reputation to slip downwards. Afterall, she is a student leader and needs some face ma.

Friend and i: of course la!
Ms XXX: hmmm, i think its just one of those common stuff la. I will try to resolve this thing.

Ok, perhaps you should tell ppl (be it your relatives/yr other friends/church ppl) about yr friend's problems and ask them for opinions. Maybe they know better.
If all else fails, just tell ur friend to let the matters die down by itself. As some ppl say, rumours will go away one day. Tell her to be strong because you don't want the gang to see her as a weakling. -

Such people you should nt waste so much time on them. Dont care and dont bother is the best. Let them do what they want and you just be yourself. Actually, when this rumors spreads around fast, the victim will sure to suffer from tremenduos pressure ... but the rumors will end fast as well. If you look at it in the future, you will feel that this is nothing.

Take this as a test of character. Others may be swayed by rumours but they have eyes to see oso mah. When the rumours dun match what they see for themselves, pple will lose interest in the rumours and stop believing it. When you stand strong in just being yourself, you may even gain the respect of others.........
You dun need others to be strong unlike Ah bengs/lians who find security in numbers and are completely bo liao when alone.
All you need is self-belief and an iron will not to yield to adversity......
