SINGAPORE : There has been a power failure in various parts of Singapore.
Callers to the MediaCorp News hotline reported blackouts in Bukit Batok, Bukit Timah, Chua Chu Kang, Crawford, Jalan Eunos, Mandai and Woodlands.
The first calls came in at about 4pm.
The Energy Market Authority, confirming the blackout, said it was due to a trip in the power supply at the two power generation plants in Senoko.
It hopes to restore supply by 5pm. Power supply to some areas has been restored.
Meanwhile, reports from Malaysia say utility company Tenaga Nasional has turned off 236 power distribution stations in Johor "for safety and security reasons".
Spokesman Sidek Kamisul is quoted as saying "a water and electricity mix is such a bad idea". - CNA /ls -
