Sure....
Some of the pictures are indeed 'Powerful Historic Pics' such as the vulture waiting to eat the African kid.
But 1960s American segregation, Oklahoma bombing, Sox-Cubs baseball match, Iraqi war, all this are indeed 'Powerful Historic Pics' if only and only if they are looked through the lense of American perspective.
It is no more 'Powerful Historic Pics' if I put up the pic of Lee Kwan Yew crying, and then show it to an American audience or another nation audience.
That is why I am concerned when I see such American imperialism in the global media.
I have no quarrel with you. My quarrel or my complain is towards American imperialism. They are exporting so much of their world perspective, it is annoying to see it happening right here in SgForums as well.

Nanjing was the capital of china during WW2. The Japanese invaded, killed everyone, and raped almost every female alive from the age of 3 to 100+. Male chinese were forced to rape dead female chinese or risk getting killed. Once they followed the order, they were subsequently killed anyway.
Families were forced to commit incest of risk getting killed. Sons were made to rape mothers, Fathers forced to rape their daughters, brothers forced to rape their sisters. Thereafter, the males are killed and the females are gangraped by the Japanese.
Pretty female chinese are taken away and used like "public toilets". They are housed in "comfort stations" and chained or tied down. Japanese soldiers would line up outside and take turns to rape them. Once a female becomes too sick/disgusting/worn-out to arouse the japanese, they would be killed.

It is so disturbing to be viewing the Nanjing pictures. But it is also so sad that the younger generation do not even know what happened. Worse still are the Japanese refuse to admit that such horrible events were committed by them.
I doubt the youngsters here in singapore know how the condition was during the japanese occupation except through books, if they are even bothered. We sure live in better times. How do books bring out the subjectivity during the times? It's not a wonder for us, those lucky to still have parents/grandparents alive, who lived through the occupation, to see the bitterness in their eyes, when the subject of the occupation is brought up. -
