chinese?

  my observation, many singapore chinese are chinese but i think they look more like china southern people or minority tribe, they dont look hanzu to me. like li and miao and hani people and like thai and vietnamese. we PRC dont look like these, i find strange when i come here. faces are very different. also not beautiful

  Well, most of us are descended from Southern Chinese, like Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew and so on.
  
  For the last hundred odd years, we've been tropicalised so to speak, and therefore we won't be as fair as those from the North. Some of us are Peranakan Chinese too.

  TS, as your username had stated, you are a northerner. Most of the Singaporean Chinese are decendants of Southerners, mostly from the two province I stated above.

  It is known that Northern Chinese are not exactly purely han. Remember Genghis Khan, Xiongnus , Tartars? Most northerners are a mix through ancestry. No one can claim to be purely HAN throughout their ancestral lines.

  cantonese people are from the yue tribe, living in southern east china. they are different from hanzu. that is why you see some difference in their look.
