actually do you think that people in singapore are that dumb?Originally posted by oxford mushroom:That's the point...many Singaporeans who have wi-fi set up for them don't even know how to put in a password. Those who can piggyback on to other folks' wi-fi are considered tech-savy to them![]()
I prefer to take that they are dumb than lazy.Originally posted by StarPuppy:actually do you think that people in singapore are that dumb?

Not so. It's just that you are tempting a person.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:So you have every right to rob a house because the front door wasn't locked? I am sorry...your argument just doesn't hold water.

As for encryption, if your router has WPA, just use WPA. Stop using WEP. It is crackable in less than 2 hours. Good as useless.
Select your wireless network, and click on Properties.Originally posted by Agenda:My WEP password, Everytime I restart computer have to type it out... so mafan 1

No, just because the network is unsecured doesn't mean that it is free to use.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Not so. It's just that you are tempting a person.
Every problem has their roots somewhere. Send the person(s) stealing to jail doesn't make any sense if the owner refuses to lock his door.
Likewise, if one don't secure their wireless network, they are tempting others to get in to use the network. And wireless signals are free in the air. Air belongs to the public, not just you yourself. It's free to use.
That's because you are applying the conventional sense of logic of property and location to a technology that transcends physical boundaries.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:So you have every right to rob a house because the front door wasn't locked? any ratio decidendi for that?Originally posted by JLennon:It is not like air in that sense. Whoever is tapping on an unsecured network is trespassing on the property of the owner. And the action of trespass is a wrong which should rightfully be punished. Not securing the network should not be misinterpreted as an invitation to others to use it.
And drag intel into court for fun?Originally posted by Icemoon:My question is .. since the centrino automatically connects to a network .. is the ignorance plea valid in court?
I agree. My centrino laptop automatically connects to the nearest available network. And I can plead ignorance which is true and its only later did I learn how to configure profile and stuff.Originally posted by Icemoon:My question is .. since the centrino automatically connects to a network .. is the ignorance plea valid in court?
i would agree except that theres no private property sign. either oyu know its private property or you dont and are jsut using it thinking its free for allOriginally posted by elindra:I prefer to think of unsecured network like a patch of grass with a "private property" sign
Enter it and you are a trespasser. You are stepping on my grounds on my lalang grass you know![]()
Then I prefer you keep your lalang grass within your confines, don't let it grow beyond where I might step onto it.Originally posted by elindra:I prefer to think of unsecured network like a patch of grass with a "private property" sign

But Windows does not tell you the network is unsecured when your notebook is connected .. right?Originally posted by elindra:I prefer to think of unsecured network like a patch of grass with a "private property" sign
