too much of every thing is a bad thing. not everything can be teach using PBL.
some faci say that module like math and science use pbl teach not very effective.
cause these modules are too content driven.
lets don't talk about the students, i see many facis come and go . one of my module change faci 3 times and module chair 1 time
oh ya our high cop is the reason why rp is a dumping ground.

last time NYP was condemned as second rated poly due to its location in jurong n the equipments n environment were unsuitable for students to study.
but since it moved to new building to YCK, its cert has became recognised.
i believe RP is still under developing n it will have its day too. -
Exactly, the best doesn't necessary equates to success. And being shy and introvert has no place in this world - you have to be outspoken, and this is a necessity, not an option. its really a flaw. juz becoz a student who doesn't speak much in class doesn't mean he cannot contribute effectively in class....
consideration shld be taken of his indv assignments etc.....answers given for different qns when tutors ask for it.....
oh ya.....NUS or NTU...at most 10-20% for participation......
i still feel its better to be given the right facts......as in we r taught the correct stuff before we go out there and experiment/RnD etc to come up different analysis etc.....
if u cant get into a course u want, try to get into another 1 first...then see dean or whoever to request a change.....but pls do ur research first and find out from ppl who r already studying....
To tell you the truth, the world is unfair, live with it. No matter how smart you are, if you aren't able to effectively convey out your thoughts, your ideas can never materialize into brilliant works.
And that is why we in RP/SMU is better in this area, we are trained to be more outspoken - and our learning environment simulate that in the working society.
I don't care what people think about RP - lousy, dumping ground, whatever...most of those people aren't really great in life to accuse us also. What matters is yourself and how you shape your destiny. Anywhere you go also the same, if you do well, you will succeed. If the society requires you to be outspoken to succeed, and if you conform, of course you will succeed.
Nothing is fair, doesn't mean you can't work around it. (=

Well if you ask me i think i would choose RP as my third choice too.
Ok I'm not trying to say RP is dumping ground or something, I choose poly by locations, just like how i choose my secondary school, I choose the ones nearest to me.
You can't blame me for choosing RP as my last resort, it's one of the polys near me and what's more the COP is higher compared to other poly. If the COP is higher of course people will use it as last resort and because of that naturally it will be given the title as 'Dumping ground' by others who can get into a lower COP poly.
I don't think RP is a dumping ground to me or to anyone, i prefer to call it 'The final hope', no one would really want to go ITE then after that go poly then if successful go uni... hello? how old will u be by then? 30? near 40? By that time you already half foot step into grave, still study what... can go shorter route of course go shorter one lah
About PBL, yea if i were to enter I might have problems with it too. Not because of no notes, it just I don't really associate with others. Well, I'm waiting for my result this year and will be out by second week of feb. -
if u fail jc and want to go to republic poly as an escape route, don't...
the PBL will probably kill you before u even enter the expressway going into RP... -
In rp it is very easy to score As. i mean a straight rows of them. and the test we have there are called " UT"
let me give u an example, at UT of full mark is 37. i got 15. and my grade is B.
i was lauging my balls away, the passing mark should be 18.5.
here is the rank of grade
D D+ C C+ B B+ A.
F is fail
d= conditional pass
c= pass
indeed in rp they do things really differently.
the daily grade is even easier to get As, be hyper active when the faci is around, then during presenation talk and give example show understanding confirm A. -
This isn't related to the course but I just have to say I've got a bad impression of Republic Poly.. coz a few years back, I was trying to get in touch with this Poly lecturer about a returned registered parcel from our bank (he ask us to send it to the school).. his hp was off all the time so I tried to call his office .. rang that bloody number the whole day & no one pick up... this was during office hours mind u..
Finally I got someone on the line, and the 1st thing she said was "YAH?! HaLLO?!....................republicpolymaindesk!" In response to my enquiry, she gave me a number that turned out to be a fax number.. rang her again and she gave me another number, which also turned out to be a fax number... I did finally get a hold of the lecturer, via his hp.. he was so paiseh that he came down to pick the parcel up instead. =.=
I mused over this incident at the end of the day and thought "poor students" .... -
i oso wanna take the IT course there, but temesek better or republic poly one?

yoz! I'm currently pursuing a dip in RP. This school, definitely can be on par with other polytechnics. or even better.

If you are going for specific IT courses like gaming, multimedia, etc, I suggest you choose other polys. Not to degrade my own school, but I feel it's better.
