Republic poly diploma

  Just asking,
  
  my friend who has only 3 O levels passes says, he is eligible to go to RP.
  
  RP do not see scores one ar? As long as u got O level cert, u r qualified to enter?

  RP is not a dumping ground lah. It is just less preferred because those who have good results will usually choose other older polytechnics. Singaporeans are not really risk-takers lah. No venture no gain!
  
  In fact, i think RP really has a good teaching method...in the working society out there it is not everything about your technical knowledge, you don't mug and puke them out like in exams anymore. You have to know your role and communicate with colleagues and superior next time. And this is what RP prepares you for: the working society out there. Especially if you are shy, you should give RP a try and get that thing call courage out from yah.
  
  Ever heard of people who does not know much but know how to talk - wins? Or hardwork or immense knowledge does not equate to better pay because you are losing to someone who is communicating more effectively or better in associating with his or her superiors in work than you are? Alot of such cases.
  
  SMU has a somewhat similar teaching methodology as well - which is very promising, since their core courses are business-related and this means you have learn how to interact and work with people.

  Technically there shouldn't be any major differences because RP is also a government institute. With that said, you have equal chance to gain admission to local/oversea Uni as compared to individuals in other polys. So it all depends on your GPA ultimately.
  
  As for employment, that i wouldn't know, since i am not stopping at diploma-level, but generally local companies are more skeptical of newer institution initially, but that would change.

  Will still see L1R4. He probably has only satisfied the bare minimum of being able to apply to that particular course(s) in RP. But that does not guarantee that he would be admitted as he would still have to compete with others applicants and that would depend on his L1R4.

  RP de people do the PBL(problem based learning). I dont like this kind of learn. I rather memorize pure notes.

  All polytechnic is good ,in the way they prepared student for the world of work
  
  Seriously ,the polytechnic education prepare a thinking worker than a non-thinking worker
  
  I am quite happy that I graduate from Poly ..we can blend into the Industry easily
  
  Republic Poly also have their strength .Your ability to find good pay ,depends on how u project yourself to your employer
  
  I was from Ngee ann poly electronics anyway

  my sister in that school also and frm what i heard frm her, it seems to be good. its more on practical skills instead of du si shu ( read dead books?)

  Everyone have the idea that Republic Poly sucks as it is a new school. Well its not the school, it about the students. I find that the school's method of teaching is very unique (PBL) which is very different from the other polys. Traditional ways of teaching like letures drill notes in ur brain while PBL is more of a independent learning which is much better. Yes we do presentations everyday so what ? At least we have the upper hand.

  Life is what you make of it. Does not matter if at the start you did not do well . Just make sure you finish top and have a clear idea of the routes to expanding your career.

  hey guys, becoz of this, the best doesn't shine......if u can get average grades but u can talk...u shine(get As)....
  it is also happening to the local unis...especially SMU......u can go ask ard what the employers think of smu students....
  its really a flaw. juz becoz a student who doesn't speak much in class doesn't mean he cannot contribute effectively in class....
  consideration shld be taken of his indv assignments etc.....answers given for different qns when tutors ask for it.....
  oh ya.....NUS or NTU...at most 10-20% for participation......
  i still feel its better to be given the right facts......as in we r taught the correct stuff before we go out there and experiment/RnD etc to come up different analysis etc.....
  if u cant get into a course u want, try to get into another 1 first...then see dean or whoever to request a change.....but pls do ur research first and find out from ppl who r already studying....

  Zzzz beside mayi any more 3rd year here Zzzz.... And btw some of my Class mates final year this year already got job offering liao who said Rp pple no job ah Zzzz...
  
  And if u really hate Rp diploma then after this go Uni la , then u go Uni obtain degree bigger right .......

  I agree to a certain.. Firstly RP's COP is depend on the quality of the student and etc factor.
  
  RP is not a dumping ground for people kenna rejected by other poly. RP uses PBL which many people still not farmilar with. This creates a stigma. Why not you ask Mayi why chosed RP?

  Comparing our courses COP with other similar courses COP, our COP is high. However, I definitely don't believe that they perform worse than other poly students for O Levels.
  
  Many of my classmates have in fact perform better than the COP, by 5 points or more. If the COP is 14, they have 9 points or less.
