Chingay Parade 2007 to be webcast 'live' on wireless networkSINGAPORE: The annual Chingay Parade turns 35 this year and its organisers – the People's Association – have introduced new ways to get more people participating in it.
'Chingay 35' previews on Friday, and MediaCorp's Channel 8 will telecast the parade on Orchard Road 'live' this Saturday, 24 February.
Last year's Chingay event attracted over 200,000 spectators and 1.5 million TV viewers.
To reach out to more people, the Chingay Parade will be streamed 'live' this Saturday on the People's Association and Chingay websites.
Anyone in Singapore or abroad can catch the webcast of the Chingay through their laptop or home computer, and even through their Wi-Fi enabled devices.
The parade will also be shown 'live' on large screens at Toa Payoh HDB Hub and the Singapore Visitors' Centre @ Orchard.
The public can take part in the 'I was @ Chingay!' competition by sending photos or video clips of themselves taken at the parade to
[email protected].
Attractive prizes also await those who vote for their favourite float via SMS to 9109-6398 or through the Chingay website.
Another highlight is that President SR Nathan will enter the parade ground on the leading 'Chingay Uniquely Singapore' float.
The PA has also held its first-ever charity auction of five pairs of premium Chingay tickets and two pairs of standing spaces on the floats.
And the winners – NATAS and partners, and Pan United Corporation – have donated the two sets of tickets.
One set goes to a wedding couple, who will get solemnised at the Chingay, symbolising the birth of a new family, while the other set is donated to the 'I Love Children' movement.
Ambassadors from the movement will appear on a float together with three Singapore Lions – Aide Iskandar, Hassan Sunny, Noh Rahman – and their prized trophy from the ASEAN Football Championships.
The parade will travel into the heartlands this Sunday and next weekend.
It will be at East Coast GRC on Sunday, 25 February; Marine Parade on Saturday, 3 March; Chinatown for the Chap Ngoh Meh celebrations on Sunday, 4 March.
