Gums bleed means not healthy, need to see dentist, not brush more. This will bring about infection if not taken care of carefully...Originally posted by mystee:but the 1st time when he stuck the rubbery blue thing between my teeth, my gum also swell for more than one week. ya.. is the same area.. the right upper gum. i still continue to brush my gum even thou' is painful, becos he told me that if my gum bleed, meaning is not healthy, then the more i have to brush.
but this time.. is more painful than the 1st time.. cos is metal band instead of rubber and the metal of the bands is very uncomfortable near my gum.
First few months is like that one. I had braces before also. First couple of months the braces caused ulcers (the metal part kept rubbing against my ulcer...yucks!). Had to see GP twice for the ulcer problem.Originally posted by mystee:today is the 2rd time appointment after i put on my braces one month ago... the 1st time was ok... not really painful.. but today, the dentist put on 4 metal bands on my chewing teeths... the pain was unbearable when he stuck them into my teeth.can feel my gum swelling... now the metal part of the bands is cutting/ rubbing my gum even when my mouth is not moving...

omg... wat is the worst that yet to come? actually my braces need a very complicated process... currently i m only doing my upper teeth as my lower teeth have 2 super big gaps. Not becos i drop my teeth, is becos the teeth is "dead" in my gum. So i have to go operation to take out those "dead" teeth in my gum. then can continue on with my lower braces...Originally posted by missqi:i understand how u feel...
take panadol str8 after tightening...
or sleep the first 24 hours after tightening.
dont complain yet.....
the worst is yet to come....v

Your dentist is weird...
i din use floss, use a kind of small brush bought at my dentist clinic. actually i seldom visit dentist cos i m so afriad of the pain.. primary & sec sch horror... now imagine have to go down every mth and suffer the pain.. omg..Originally posted by Honeybunz:First few months is like that one. After a few months, you will be ok... perfectly ok. Only feel a bit pain when dentist adjusts anything on your braces. Quite bearable though.
Something to take note: Be consistent in your brushing and flossing. I know flossing is very very troublesome at this time -- you have to use the special kind of dental floss and floss it in a very different way.
Also to note that you have to go for cleaning ever 3 months (normal ppl go to dentist every 6 months)
If you cannot bear the pain in your gum, go to Watsons or Pharmacy to buy something to apply on the gum (always at the same section with the toothbrush, dental floss etc).
yup he did... but now i keep biting the flesh at the side of my mouth whenever i wanted to close them. due to the metal bands at the back teeth...Originally posted by huiz:didnt your dentist give you wax to put on the metal bands? it can reduce the rubbing against the mouth.
embrace dental at international building... i tink he is an orthodontist. but how i wish he can be gentle when cleaning my teeth.. very pain lor...Originally posted by huiz:dont worry your mouth will get accustomed to the cutting that you wouldnt find it a pain in future.
which dentist did you go to? so good, clean your teeth at every visit.
so is normal to swell for the 1st few days.. until the next appt? hmm.. does this mean i have to bear pain every mth? omg... y my teeth cant be nice w/o gap?Originally posted by cAr|n:if u feel really uncomfortable u can ask him to check for u... could be the little wires sticking out that rubbing against your lips and gums... if that's the case he can help to twist the wires a little neater so that they don't stick out so much
after a while u'll get used to it lah... your teeth will slowly adjust to accommodate the metal bands.... it always feels a bit swollen for the first few days then it's ok for the next few weeks until u go for the nxt appointment
bear with it.... when your teeth is straightened it'll be very nice and no more discomfort!! jia you!!
